Controversial football loudmouth Joey Barton has sparked a Twitter storm after saying the residents of Channel 4âs Benefits Street should be banned from having children. Barton, who plays for QPR, sent a string of shocking tweets last night (Jan 15) saying residents of James Turner Street should only have kids if they get a licence. In a tirade of tweets on the social network site he wrote: âStrong evidence to support the breeding licence theory. What chance do these kids have? "World is f****d sometimes. Surely you should have to pass a test or at least show you are capable of looking after kids. Surely? âThey donât even keep their own homes clean. I didnât grow up in the best place but people cared about their homes and the way they looked. "These people donât give two f***s. Pile rubbish up in the street. Houses are manky. "They expect the council to sort everything for them. Clean the street up. âDonât sit on walls all day drinking white lightening or sit on the couch moaning. Get to work on your house. Thatâs a start.â He also hit out at Romanians who appeared on the show and blasted: âRomanians. If you donât like it here. You know what to do. Imagine me going to Romania trying this sh*t on? Interesting they all have cars, gold chains, mobile phones, a roof over their heads and are fat. Canât be that bad now can it.â And this morning Barton sent another tweet refusing to backtrack on his comments. He tweeted: âReally interesting how #benefitstreet polarises opinion. Slept on it. Still as sickened as before.â ............................................................................... he's a politician born that lad.
Bit of a liberty for a scouser, but there's a kernel of truth under the layers of rant. A lot of folk don't seem to give a **** and expect to be kept by the state, quite wrongly. The problem, as ever, is having jobs available so people can work, rather than simply slagging them all off for not working. Difficult area to stick yer nose in, Joey. p.s. yer still a grade A kernt...
Totally agree with him. I called a local radio station a few years ago and expressed my opinion that all kids should be injected with something before they reach puberty making them incapable of producing babies. When they can prove that they have a stable environment, a job with a steady income and they are responsible enough, then, and only then, should they be given the antidote. I was castigated for my views then, but I still firmly believe this every time I walk around town and see young girls pushing a baby in a push chair accompanied by some scruffy looking, track suited, work-shy waster, I am even more convinced.
I agree with him. I'm Childless at 32, I've met the love of my life and would love to start a family. I haven't for one reason only. Because I'm not in the position to give them everything they need. I won't bring a child into the world while living of the state. I'm not that ****ing cheeky.
Exactly my situation. I'm far too responsible to consider bringing a child into this messed up world when I can't comfortably take care of myself and I won't until I can do so off my own back. Gotta question the moral upbringing of people who expect help off the state. Children are a privilege not a right.
No problem struggling financially to bring up a child so long as the money is earned and not handed out. Working then ending up on the state is ok, sometimes security is swept out from under you. But starting a family while fully dependent on the state should be illegal imo.
Cant help feeling though if Barton wasnt fortunate enough to be born with footballing talent that he could possibly have been the star of the show that he is ranting about!

I'd rather wait until I've got a full time job. My little fellas are still working fine and my girlfriend is only 21. I can hold off a few years yet like.
But of course. Been there too and still not fully recovered. Think we all agree the lazy and work shy who don't deserve benefits not the unfortunate and victims of circumstance. Don't understand how jcp and dss continue with the handouts to those with no intention of pulling their weight. When I got laid off I was given 3 months to concentrate solely on finding work in the field I'd spent 7 years studying to get into and 5 years practicing. after that I was expected to apply for anything and everything or they'd stop my support. In the end I had to do just that. How can these scroungers get away with not even looking for work? Barton's right (cant believe I think this) we need a cull starting in Birmingham. Country's donald ducked. I'm making the short jaunt to Scotland when they get their independence.
I didn't have kids until I could afford them..I ended up having three, and my youngest is only 12 and I'm 53..However, I wouldn't change a thing to be honest..
There are plenty of jobs round here, in fact I am looking to give people work at the moment. The problem is no employer in their right mind would give most of the people on that program a job. Its not about jobs, its about education and accountability. Those people on that program have been bought up to believe they are right. They believe they have a right not to work, not to contribute to society and to generally get a free ride and do whatever they like. Its been passed down from their parents and is part of their up bringing. The problem with Barton's point on them having children is who has the right to decide. Many would probably think Barton himself should also be banned from having children if that was the case. The world is a ****ed up place and unfortunately there is not a simple solution to the problem of benefits street. Take away those peoples benefits and they will steel and end up in prison which will cost us even more. Its a no win situation.
