Midfielder wants to give former club a 'reality check'

Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton is out to scuttle former club Manchester City's Premier League dreams.

The midfielder returns to his previous home on Sunday's final day of the season with a chance to have a major say in the title race.

City must defeat QPR to be sure of winning their first top-flight trophy in 44 years, but Barton has other ideas and is ready to give his ex-employers a 'reality check'.

The controversial 29-year-old left City in 2007 but has warned that any complacency from Roberto Mancini's champions-elect will be severely punished.

"I can't wait for the game. I can't wait to go to Man City," said Barton. "They expect us to turn up and them to probably stuff us and win the league.
    Survival

"If that is their attitude, they will get a reality check. It's 11 men against 11, there is a lot of pressure out there. I can't wait for it."

QPR are themselves fighting to stay in the Premier League but they have won three of their last five games to mean they only need a point to be sure of survival.

Part of Mark Hughes' side's resurgence came without Barton after he was dropped and he admits he benefits from criticism.

"I'm a weird, weird, peculiar individual," Barton said. "If people praise me, I don't get the best out of myself. I only get the best out of myself when people say I'm not good.

"I'm one of those players who needs a rocket up my backside."

I hope he's right, all we ask him to do is keep his cool and maybe score a late winner for Qpr to hand us the title ( I given up by the way ).

Clutching at straws a bit to be backing Barton to save your failing title bid to be honest.

I would be very surprised if anyone believes that it could still happen. Most of us have conceded that it is highly unlikely.

Most United fans have already given up on the title anyway. No expectations so anything is a bonus.

    Fishing..eh?
That's the point. We do not think the title is up for grabs. Just realistic. The most difficult hurdle for City was the Newcastle match. So it will need a massive choke from tHem at the last minute.

True I suppose but you threw the towell in on here before the city game. Many of your fans had given up on the title. And after the city game you ALL had. Pathetic mate. More bothered about getting wummed than about having faith in your team <ok>

Because of course Arsenal fans are always 100% behind their side, never pessimistic and will sing for 90 minutes plus injury time regardless of the scoreline.

Arsenal fans must dream of still being in the title race at this stage of the season, pure bitterness coming out now.

You know the drill, every January it's "we're fighting for four trophies, let's win the treble", and by late February you're knocked out of three cups and fighting for Champions League places.

But don't worry, we know the Arsenal squad have this great mental strength and it's just pure bad luck that they fall apart every year, they will keep their best players as they do every summer. <laugh>

To be fair to Arsenal, they left their annual choke til April this season.

I hope they don't bottle it v WBA and let Spuds finish ahead of them.
