Joey Barton contract + other stuff.

OK so I'm currently a member of another toon forum with some pretty die hard fans (wont advertise it here) and one of the lads said he went to the charity auction thing and managed to have a bit of a chat with Barton about certain things including his contract talk and this is what was said:


"Yeah I went, he was absolutely spot on, and signed hundred of autographs, was in photos for everyone and spoke for a good half an hour. Also stuck a couple of grand of his own money into the auction.


Said that he'd been offered 1/3rd of his current contract and not heard anything from them since. Said Llambias told him the deal was 'non negotiable'. Said Ashley is actually a decent fella.

He mentioned he was willing to take a pay cut, because he knows people aren't getting paid what they used to at NUFC, but such a monster cut was really taking the piss considering he feels he's playing the best football of his career.

Doesn't have a problem with Shearer at the moment, and they had banter at a party round Harpers. Said at Liverpool Shearer accused him of being a coward and deliberately trying to hurt Xabi Alonso, which is why the fall out happened.

Mentioned that after the Leyton Orient game they had the famous "team meeting" where "Some of them said they thought they were too good to play in the Championship, which is funny because they were the ****s who took the club down". Mentioned Martins and Bassong specifically. Also said Duff was all up for staying at NUFC in the championship, but his missis wanted to move to London and he had to go with her.

Had a cheeky dig at Martins (well, I presume it was him) "Some ****s sign for a team and play one game and win a cup, they havent really won it, have you? You need to play every game"

Said the Carroll deal was great for NUFC as long as we "go and spend the ****ing money" in the summer.

If he could sign anyone in the league it'd be Luka Modric.

Said he was speaking to Puma about the home kit because he's sick of people (mentioned jermaine defoe in particular) ripping the piss out of the way he wears his shorts.

Finally said that he wasn't leaving NUFC this summer, even if the club try to sell him.

We'll see."


I know theres already a thread for this but though I'd make another just to make sure everybody sees this, the bloke is a long time poster and generally trustworthy from what I know.

Was going to say (before I read it) that you should post this on another article. But probably deserving of its own so more people see it. All sounds good, but the Llambias contract offer is a worry. Cant afford to lose him.

 

Seems genuine but you just never know these days whether he'll stick to his word or not. I hope he stays, he been fantastic for us this season.

 

This. He's a key player, despite not getting any younger he's that sort of player that can carry on until his mid 30s or so but maybe not at a high standard. I think ideally a new three year contract with the option of further extending it would be brilliant! Could see him retiring or at least playing some of his best remaining football here and then probably ending his career in a lower division or something.

 

When you say a third of the contract is that meant to be "a third off"? They couldnt possibly have offered 20k.

Still, I worry about that offer (and Llambias), why would they try to force him to take a cut during the best years of his career, and such a significant cut when we arent forced to? Hope he stays and signs an extension, I dont care if he keeps the money, we can easily get 10k/20k a week together from selling Perch/Xisco/Smith.

Interesting. If it's true, and NUFC have only offered a third of what he's making, then that's absolutely rotten.

 

Joey sounds cool and I hope the bit about Duff is true

Suppose we will just have to wait and see, but I feel a bit better after reading this either way.

Taken on face value it's certainly makes interesting reading.

As far as Joey's contrat talks goes, it must be semantics or how you interpret things
mentioned verbally:

A 1/3 off his current contract [if we're assuming he's on 60k] will take him to 40k
which sounds about right with other salarys I've read within the club.

A 1/3 of his current contract will only be 20k which is the salary you see mentioned
for academy players etc - this cannot be right surely.

Something sounds totally wrong here - they cannot expect him to take 20k!!!?? Eh?
Mind he sounds sufficiently pissed off about it [and with Lambias whom I wouldn't trust
one iota], anything is possible at NUFC these days.

 

I honestly reckon they want want him on around 20-25k, more than likely quoting his age as a reason not to offer more, or something stupid like that.

Our most important player this season IMO so if its true It shows no signs of change from the board room, could be a bleak summer.

 

He should be on our highest wage level, as he's one of our most important players by far.

 

Talking about age, isn't it time Llambiarse put his feet up?
