He deserves it for the many unprovoked assaults he has commited on the pitch.

I don't think that it is right to punch Joey Barton as this is actually a criminal act and I would suspect that the media has played a part in bringing this horrible individual to greater attention. The best thing that should have happened to him would have been to ban him for a season and not continually report avery comment he seems to make in Twitter. Best if people like Barton are ignored and they can crawl back to whatever hole they originally came out of. By giving someone so much attention within the media it is obvious that he is going to get vilified wherever he goes.

While I don't support Bartons antics on the pitch, I also don't support idiots thinking its ok to reap (what revenge? more likely a reputation) by assaulting him. There is no prophet in stupidity x 2.

Shame that Barton hasn't sorted himself out. He's seems to have the intelligence and insight at times, but then falls back a step or twelve. Media probably doesn't help, but then of course he needs to help himself more.

Hmm........ sorry folks, but one criminal act does not justify another. You may well feel that he deserves it but that person is now no better than Joey himself. Doing exactly the same thing that you are condeming Joey For. Sorry, two wrongs do not make a right!! That to me in not justice no matter how much better you may feel afterwards.

Whether you hate Barton or not, punching him isn't the right thing to do (although it would be good) - your then lowering yourself to his level

I'm making and it reads that most of us are making the big assumption that Barton did nothing to provoke this punch in the face by his actions in the club.
Whilst I don't condone the punchers actions. It's difficult to feel any sympathy for Barton as his shenanigans on a football field only promote violent and conflict behaviour. If he took his place in society as a role model more seriously perhaps his nights out would involve autograph and photos with adoring fans instead of abuse and a punch in the face.

Thats real mature just because Barton is a an idiot on the pitch doesnt give anyone the right to just go and give him a punch in the street. I cant believe somebody thinks thats okay, just sums up the moral decline in this country.

May not be right but after what he did to his own team mates face (Dabo) , plus stubbing a cigar in a youth team players eye. Probably many more incidents of him being a twat , No one can't say he had it coming.

He is more then just a idiot on the pitch tho, that's the thing. If he was just a idiot it would be harsh but he isn't, he is a violent thug who doesn't deserve to breath free air let alone play football.

I think this was probably more to do
with the fact he's hated in Liverpool
and his brother murdered someone there didn't he?

Why did he even go on a night out there?

I don't think he deserved it, but he did ask for it. There's a subtle difference I think.

A Barton punched by another Barton.

I do apologise for any right minded Bartons, who may be reading this.

I'm just borrowing your surname, as an allegory of sorts.

I agree. He is a vile person and doesn´t deserve to be a footballer and earn 50k a week. He has committed so many offences on and off the pitch that the FA should just ban him from playing professional football. He hasn´t learnt his lessons and he never will. He´s a thug and that´s it.
I´m surprised so many people are saying that it isn´t Ok that he got punched in the face. That is the least he deserves!
This open letter has been circulating twitter for some time and it pretty much sums up what most people think of him:
