As far as I'm aware it occurred just before the restart following the penalty. The ref had to step in and pull them apart. I'm surprised he didn't send them both off.
I saw this and here's my interpretation. Richard Dunne was pulled up on what was nothing more than a shoulder to shoulder foot race for the ball and on giving the PK, the red card seemed doubly harsh. Joey Barton sprinted in to remonstrate with the referee. Clint Hill pushed him away and continued the line of questioning to no affect. Following the successful conversion of the PK, Joey Barton continued and I think he was yellow carded for his efforts. Again Clint Hill intervened. And they had a frank exchange. Having observed it, I wouldn't build it up into anything other than the two 'captains' / on-the-pitch leaders venting their frustrations. The PK and red card were pivotal. This might appear strange, I saw an opinion on Twitter that I warmed to. It opined that two wins and two losses - as much as they hurt - are probably a whole lot better than an array of 0-0 draws. I agree! As such, let's put this behind us and get on with the next match!
Barton just tweeted this one minute ago............... Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 41s Why are sky making out me and Clint where having a disagreement. Absolutely false. Clearly it was him stopping me moaning at the ref. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 2 mins The same ref incidentally who sent me off against Leicester. I am clearly unhappy at pen decision and Dunneys sending off. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 57s The most comfortable game ever up until that point. A game we would never have lost. Big decisions change games and fair play to Sheff Wed. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 4 mins If people want to make up falsities, then thats their prerogative. There are lots of excuses for last night, none are acceptable. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 3 mins We simply weren't good enough and the lack of effort was appalling. We let down any fans who travelled. But its gone. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 2 mins Nothing can be done about it now. We must stay together in tough times, otherwise we will be in serious danger of not fulfilling our aim.
It did look to me that after the sending off the ref booked JB for dissent and rather than walk away JB continued remonstrating. He was then manhandled away by Clint and I think Henry for his own good. From my vantagepoint near the halfway line it didn't look like an issue between the players at all
Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 9 mins I still believe we can do it. We're gonna have to do it the hard way. But did anyone expect it any other way? Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 7 mins Now is the time for fronting up and to keep moving forward. Not the time for sulking. I have no time for negativity. Have a good day people.
Yes, I'm sure Clint had been instructed by management to pull Joey from trouble when the red mist comes down. So it's not personal on either part
That about sums the team up lack of effort, well put joey & at least he try's & clint, the rest tosh.
For one of the players to come out and admit there was an appalling lack of effort is nothing short of disgraceful. How the **** do we as a club manage to keep getting it so terribly wrong? It's like a lottery winner who, 3 years later, has blown all his money. This could be such a huge opportunity lost. FFS Tony, sort out a decent transfer policy and re-build everything the right way..............please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Col , you forgot to mention how bad Richard Dunne is, how slow he is, how he gets Dunne for pace by quick forwards and how it was a penalty
