Apparently we are now linked with the Ajax CB.
    Anyone know anything about him?

I signed him for nufc on FM15 on my ipad a few weeks ago. He was ever present in my side and performed quite consistantly. we went on to win the Carling cup and finish 7th!

Attribute wise he is a good tackler and does well positioning wise. Seems to have his head screwed on, I would be really happuy if we signed him bear ing in mind he is still 22/23

Well if we are going off FM 2015, I highly recommend Éder Álvarez Balanta and Luka Jovic. I am in my 14th season with Newcastle and I spent my entire budget in first two seasons on these two. Both are still with me and are club legends. We have won the league 11 times, 5 CL, 6 FA Cups, 3 Carling Cups, 5 Euro Super Cups and 5 World Club Championships. Balenta is actually realistic as he is still at River Plate in real life. Quality too but had a few injury issues. Jovic is still at Red Star too, but he's only 17. I say we go for both <laugh>

I just realised yesterday when playing, I let Tim Krul get within one appearance of the all time club record and dropped him for Geronimo Rulli. #ruthless

Isn't he left footed? Could see Colo going if we signed him since Colo plays on the left of the centre backs. By all accounts he's a footballing CB. Matip would compliment a footballing CB well, he could do all the ugly stuff.

Certainly encouraging anyway, I think this week we'll mate a couple of big breakthroughs.

I actually disagree, I don't think we will. This Veltman link is no different to all the dozen or more other links, there's no evidence.

The latest Sky Sports story of "NUFC considering bid for Wijnaldum" sums it up for me. Zenit have bid, that's where he'll go.

I know it means little and could still happen but you have to laugh "Zenit make official bid, Newcastle ponder" <laugh><laugh>

Apparently the bid from Zenit is "too low" and, again apparently, the player only wants to head to one of the Western Europe leagues.

I still don't think we'll be bringing him in. What I find odd is that we've not even leapt in and taken Will Hughes, or Chris Martin. Not World beaters, but good enough to bulk up a squad. Truth be told I find the whole stagnation odd. I'm getting to the point where I was with the football during the season - complete and utter apathy towards the whole thing. Another week and I'm likely to give up even looking any more, what's the point? The Fans Forum should be interesting. Not.

I think you have to give them to the 15th. I would like to have seen some action but the reality is the whole approach has been behind schedule. It took ages to sort McClaren, then his backroom. The cynic says this is all deliberate but maybe there are genuine reasons. Get to the 15th with the same squad, I admit I'd be thinking the worst. Which would be a shame having gone to the trouble of rooting out Carver and the boys.

Why the 15th? They fly for US this weekend, right, so after the 10th they have the "McClaren's not around" excuse.

Like I've said elsewhere, West Ham have signed players yet Bilic has been in the job the same length of time. Leicester have offered for Austin without having a manager. Sorry, it's a bit broken record, but realistically they have til Friday to just do something, and Ivan Toney isn't really going to cut the mustard.

    I know that:
    1. His name is Joel Veltman
    2. He is a centre back
    3. He plays for Ajax

    Hope that helps. <ok>

Look I expect very little and I openly admit we have made a pigs ear of the early stages of building for the new season. There is no doubt about that, anyone saying otherwise is kidding themselves. Shambolic is perhaps a touch harsh, but its been shoddy. I still say the 15th is fair with the rider that we don't get the "we've been away in the US" excuse rolled out for further delays.

I know GCB has said it doesn't matter if on the last day of the window we suddenly blow a wad on 5 players. To me those are very low standards of how a football club should operate and it will matter. I just can't be as extreme to say "this Friday is cut off". I won't panic either way, my expectations are very very low because of how this board operates. I expect to see one or two signings. Maybe this dutch lad and then some underwhelming other. Maybe thats why I am not overly negative, my sights are set low. I know what a good well run club would have done so far and would be planning. I just see no evidence that puts us in that category.

Fair enough the behind the scenes set up is now in place in terms of state of the art facilities, a cracking ground, as well as further planned works. However the actual actions in terms of decision making and timing don't seem to have moved on at all.
