still following the original plan from 2015/16 …. poor WIGAN, had a really good team put together and finish up relegated after their "owners" did a run for it [ and the probs with Covid of course ]
From what I've seen and read, they should have probably relegated Sheffield Wednesday instead of Wigan.
Looks like we've each put about 2 mill Wigan's way. You've gone for a midfielder in Joe Williams whilst we've spent on a striker in Kieffer Moore. There's a fair age difference between the two but then I would imagine we each have different needs in our squads. I wonder which of us will get the best return from our alleged 2 mill investments - any thoughts?
wigan sue the EFL, it seems they were trying to overstep the mark with SHEFF WED, as SHEFF W was able to benefit from a minor bit of EFL action v SW … HAD THEY GONE FOR THE MAIN ASPECT then SW would be lge 1 Wigan and Charlton should sue not sure of timelines but SW APPARENTLY BENEFITTED? from season proper ending [ May?]... when did Wigan go into admin?
Hello OS Remains to be seen I guess. We've lost Smith to the Swans so lets hope his replacement Williams stays injury free for us. It will also depend on whether we lose Diedhiou because if we do, then he will need to be replaced pronto given the fixtures for the Championship are published tomorrow, and the new season is only a three weeks away. Other teams are building their squads and it's going to be a weird season with no fans present at the start. I don't have a huge expectation of the team or the new Manager, but if he can delivery some consistency that'll do for a start,
Williams is IMHO a very good signing, a player we were due to sign before he was injured about 18 months ago. Sounds as though he was being tracked by several clubs including Leeds and West Brom. So well done BCFC for signing him. He will give us something sadly lacking from our midfield for a long while now, somebody who can tackle. We need an organised, disciplined midfield who can dominate and not be dominated and give space and time for those who can open up defences and feed our strikers with good chances.
I think both will be good, Moore is a little more proven, especially last season, but Cardiff have a habit of making good strikers look bad, so long may it continue All joking aside OS, I think he will do very well for you, I wouldn't have minded if we had signed him.
I agree I think he is better player than many realise. I liked Sam Gallagher when Blackburn played against us, doesn't score a lot but he is a proper handful.
Williams has had 100 championship games, so could be classed as proven. Sad fact is though he’s always been in a relegated team
Wigan relegated because of a 12 point deduction, which they came very close to overcoming and because of a bent EFL protecting yet another big club. Other sad facts is they had a better GD than us, let in less goals than us, lost only 6 of their last 27 games, we lost 15 of our last 26, unbeaten in their 9 post lockdown games, we lost 5.
I said that in jest, to me he is the one player we’ve been missing. I think he is going to be like a young Wade Elliot an all rounded midfielder.
Really liked his interview, especially the bit about 'I like going forward' and 'putting my foot in' . From afar he looks a great signing.
that seems very unfair on WIGAN \then as the "season ended " in May …. according judgement on Sheff Wed ….
So according to the BristolPost we signed Williams with an existing injury and that injury might keep him out for 12 weeks. I hope this is not a snapshot of things to come from the new set up, not a great start.
