When I was at Uni people didn't understand that the two sides were even rivals. The fact that in Yorkshire (for example) you could draw a 40 mile circumference around any ground and be able to spread the net over 10+ football clubs makes our rivalry seems very tenuous but each region is different.

The rivalry should be apparent - the two nearest sizeable clubs based in the county towns of adjoining counties so in the borders around Lowestoft/Yarmouth there will be a mix of supporters of both clubs sparking off one and other.

I think that Royle makes a fair point and that if we take off our tinted glasses we would see a lot of similarities between the clubs but that is what makes rivalries interesting - what is the point of you being rivals with (say) Colchester when you are only rarely in the same division as them? Same as us being rivals with Lowestoft or Man Utd? Rivalries only really work when both sides are of a similar size and go into the games with a reasonable expectation of a result. I think many on both sides of the border would like to see the return of the old farm derby to the PL.

I would speculate that most NCFC fans have a least a grudging respect for Ipswich's history in the Ramsey and Robson eras and at the minute some of your lot are looking at us with some respect and maybe as an example to your board.

To be fair, it isn't exactly what you would call a fierce rivalry. It's just about being better than the other and we certainly are better than you at present!

Deleted. Never saw him as a player but how can you call him a waste of space as a manager? FA cup winner, gained promotion with Man City and even more impressively with Oldham. A 42% win ratio whilst working here on a budget of zero.

Dont know about anyone else but I dont dream of being forced to sell Darren Bent and replacing him with Nicky Forster and Adam Proudlock. I dont dream of Diallo. I have nothing against either Matt Richards, Ian Westlake or Alan Lee but I dont think many fans would welcome them back here as being better than what we have currently

I know that at certain times during his reign he had some very good players here and we were very lucky to have a decent youth squad to help our financially stricken team at times but managing a club who will accept any offer for your players because it has not cash is hardly an easy job and calling him a waste of space is absurd.

Jim Magilton bought Alan Lee <ok>

In my opinion Joe Royle worked bloody miracles on a shoe string budget and for deleted to slag him off just goes to show that he doesn't know his arse from his elbow!

Deleted must be the only town fan I know who considers Royle to be anything other than a star though!

Royle was a negative whinging arsehole. Do you really think there are many managers who don't have to work within constraints?

Don't think Deleted has recovered from his concussion yet!! It's been a strange few weeks!!

I have to say I don't think Royle is a great great manager, he's not someone I would want overly for the long term (although would've prefered him to our past couple of managers) but what he did with the club was superb. That team bar Bent and probably Miller and Davis weren't overly brilliant, we had a mixture of journey men often players other clubs didn't want but managed to combine them together as a good team. We also had characters and leaders in the team, which helped a hell of alot.
