I watched the Southend v Wycombe play off final at Wembley specifically to catch up on Joe Pigott. The match itself was terrible - kick and rush football in front of an empty stadium. I thought I was watching Celtic in the SPL for a minute. As for Joe Pigott, this was only a 90 minute snapshot. He took his goal well, but his overall performance up to then was poor, to say the least. He had a half decent headed chance in the second half which he put well wide, but the stand out was his poor touch and poor distribution of the ball. And this was up against League Two defenders. Any Charlton management watching Saturday's game would surely conclude, regardless of his goal, that Joe isn't going to cut the mustard at Championship level.
I think it was the best possible scenario for charlton on Saturday - he took his goal well and now we might stand to make a bit of extra dosh off of Southend.
Couldn't agree more. Under Luzon, I cannot imagine that he has Piggott in mind. He's had his chances, and with the likes of KAG higher in the pecking order, best to sell him why we have the chance to make the most. It's a shame really, I thought he was going to be a class player for us too!
So did I! A couple of years ago my prediction was Pigott, Poyet and Pope, the 3P's, to make it in the first team.
According to Dr. Kish, yes. I cannot see him staying at charlton, as Kag is ahead of him and surely Umerah and the other under 18's are worth a go ahead of him. To me he hasn't made any progress since I first saw him. I therefore cannot see him ever being anything above a League 2 striker. I would be interested to hear Dick's view.
For all the weaknesses in his game, he was always a good penalty box player when I used to watch him. In fact, when he got his first opportunity in the first team he scored a first-half hat-trick against Welling, all 3 goals set up by Yann, and tucked away in different ways. Maybe that was his peak, he certainly seemed to flourish under Nathan Jones. Anyway, I'm not writing him off yet, although if Phil Brown does want him that will be that as far as his Charlton career is concerned.
I My view is that from U16 to U18 he was a very promising player who knew how to finish. His flaws like lack of pace and aerial ability have been exposed in grown up football. I would really like to see him succeed with us but he is just not good enough for Championship football. Will go on to have a career in Div 1 or 2.
That is the key. Losing Jones has wiped hundreds of thousands of pounds off the value of some of our youngsters. Certainly far more than we saved by appointing cheap option Euell.
Poyet was another who raved about Jones, said he had an impact on everyone at the club, not just the U-21's.
No that's an odd one. Managers come and go but Jones remains as no.2. You'd think they'd either promote him or sack him.
