Now that we have our left back signed, any views on whether Dawson could make the "Ashbee" we miss? I think I'm right in saying that Ash was a right back when he joined us..?
All he needs to do is tackle and distribute..... What do you all think?

    I doubt it.

However I do think that he will make the perfect back-up LB.

No. Dawson is a completely different build to Ashbee. He's quite light weight, not strong and just overall doesn't have the same presence.

Didn't think it was that daft! I guess I am tainted that I'm from the same area as the Dawsons.... Guess we've got to move on. P's thanks White Rose for participating! Anyway will be good next season and utt. Ash only had one foot by the way and didnt look after himself like Daws.. Any news on the new strip tigernation!?

Ash was a beast in the centre of midfield, with all due respect to Daws, he won't have Championship teams quaking in their boots when he goes flying in for tackles. I still rate him as a good full back, but it looks like his time is up unfortunately

Dawson will play a big part next season at left back.

Dudgeon has 0 experience at any level. To assume that siging a left back means your other one must be on his way is just daft. This isn't FIFA where you just use the same 11 every week and replace the worst player now and then. It's a squad game. They will both be playing left back next season, none of us know which will be first choice yet, it could easily be Dawson. But if not they will both still play a part.

Why, are we selling him? :emoticon-0120-doh:

Pearson's signings have generally gone straight into the starting XI, I fully expect the same to be true of Dudgeon.

You mean like Solano, Bostock, Belaid, Amoo, and Akpan?

Come on OLM. You don't really expect Dawson to just disappear now? He's a good reliable full back. I'm delighted we've got a young left back in, for depth, competition and all that. But it's very unlikely he's going to totally dominate the position like a Rosenior, Gerrard or Fryatt in their respective positions.

You list merely two players we took when we were skint and three we took on trial, what about the rest?

He's our fourth signing from the Man United academy, did the other three walk straight into the team?

One player has been the weak link in our defence over the course of this season, who was it?

I don't expect Dawson to disappear, but I do fully expect him to be backup to Dudgeon next season.

i think you couldnt be more wrong mate.. Stewart, Evans, Chester.. all untested at this level and 9/10 if they are fit, they start. i think it will be the same for Dudgeon. it was very obvious that dawson is getting worse now he's getting older. he's too slow for a fullback and makes stupid fouls because he cant keep up with the man is he marking. we'll still keep dawson of course, competition & cover for the LB slot.

My point is simply that in today's game there is no first 11 and no backup player. Assuming Dudgeon turns out to be better than Daws, AD will still be our 2nd best left back, and there will be several occasions when our first one lacks form, gets injured, suspended or whatever. We will use both of them significantly next season, of that I'm sure.

It's the equivalent of saying McLean wouldn't get a game if we started the season with Fryatt and Simpson. There'd obviously be changes in the pecking order, even if they were only temporary.

Exactly. That's manager speak for "they'll both play, nobody just has one player in each position these days."
