According to the Sunday Mirror, Newcastle are preparing a bid for Bryan but face competition from two Premier League rivals. Everton are on the hunt for a left-back after losing Leighton Baines to injury. Cuco Martina has failed to win over the Goodison Park faithful and Toffees boss Sam Allardyce has turned his attention to Bryan. Bristol City news: Everton and Newcastle in January transfer scrap for Joe Bryan Rafa Benitez has been given the green light by Mike Ashley to swoop for Joe Bryan Brighton also fancy the 24-year-old, who can also play on the left wing. Championship outfit City are reportedly willing to sell Bryan for £7million. Bryan, who has 18 months left on his contract, has been a regular for the Robins since making his debut in March 2012. The attacking full-back has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season. He opened the scoring and was named man of the match when City beat Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final last month.
10 to 12 million on the rates players are going for. But I reckon joe will stay here for the time being.
a quality full back in the prem [not a super star!] has got to be turning the pages at £15m a good winger has to be in excess off £20+ million so less than a club record of £15m is a no go
I'm with the others on this. At todays inflated prices, £10m is the lowest that we should be looking for. And I guess it will also depend on whether Joe fancies going that far north. Newcastle have become a bit of a Yo Yo team in recent years and with all the uncertainty over Mike Ashleys future he might be better off with Everton ?
He might be better off staying with us for the time being and our management getting an extension on his contract!!
Hopefully City will also offer him some impartial career advice. If he joins Newcastle, there is a very real chance he will be playing Championship football again next season.
I have to say Joe has looked like a Premier League player in the 3 matches against the Manchester clubs
I think he is at another level where he would prosper being challenged by and playing with a higher standard of player. Each game sees times where BCFC players do not have the ability to perform at the same level - Joe Bryan is attempting to be positive where team mates would be attempting to control the ball / just keep it / get rid.
I think Joe loves the club, but it'd be understandable for him to move if a Premiership side came in for him. All I'd say is, I hope he's picky. Newcastle could be a great club, but desperately needs stability, most likely under a chairman who's more famous for their nous, rather than their penchant for downing pints. If Everton came in with enough money, then it'd be hard to tell him it wouldn't be a good move for him whilst keeping a straight face. I'd like to think he won't go this month, but him staying beyond next summer could well depend on whether we get promoted or not...
Very simple. Joe Bryans skill set allows him to move the ball quicker to feet and forward with both feet. His team mates take several touches to do less. Bryan frequently keeps difficult possession, re-sets it where in contrast his team mates would help it up the line in hope.
In all honestly, that was the significant difference last night. With Man City, every player was controlling/passing instinctively, all of which made it look oh so simple!! That is what we should be aiming for with our squad. Joe is there in my opinion but needs "better" players around him to make the most of the abilities he has. Whether that is with us getting promoted or with a "decent" and established Prem side is another thing!! For the life of me I wouldn't be able to understand him going to a club that is likely to be fighting relegation!!!
If I were Joe, I'd wait till the summer and then take a view. No point going to a relegation threatened Premier side and being usurped if City achieve promotion.
Agree with NickH above. Even removing bias, if you ignore the financial impact, no one can say that moving to Newcastle this January window is a good move for him right now. Everton on the other hand, would be almost perfect if he was to leave. Big danger this summer of missing out on some big money for our local lads it seems. Both Bobby and Joe with just a year left.
