£13.5 seems a bit much for a player so young, I'd have preferred to see £10 but maybe i'm splitting hairs about the other £3.5m

£10m seemed like the right price (if we get him!). Having said that, he did look pretty good for team GB the other day <ok>

I hardly think we can get this sarcastic yet. okso he worked with borini on loan and allen is "linked" but lets be fair and say he's after dempsey so it blows that theory out of the water.

We'd like to think he'd have some scouting network on contacts but it looksthat rodgers has to go for players he knows so maybee lfc need to completely reinvent it's scouting yet again and that surely is more evidence condemning comolli's work?

    who knows?

The fee/deal is not confirmed yet. Negotiations are ongoing.

The lad is young, and one of Swansea's best players, hence the fee. he has a good engine and is an excellent passer of the ball, reminds me of a young Alonso. Rodgers who has worked with him closely obviously rates him very highly.

He will improve our midfield and give us a different option, and perhaps allow us to get rid of Adam, Cole and (or) Downing.

All that for £15 mil, bargain. Would rather that than some foreigner with a flash name who is untested in the Prem.

Gerrard, Allen, Wee Jay, Lucas, Shelvey, Aqualani, Henderson.

    That looks so much better.

I'm not so sure. I think Allen has a lot of potential but £15m is steep. We seem to like overspending on British players. He's a good player but I think we can get a player for £15m.

And I don't buy the fact that just because he's played in the PL already, it will mean he will hit the ground running when he joins. I think Downing, Carroll, Henderson and Adam have proved that point. We bought Alonso when he was 23/24 for £10.7m and I can't help but feel there are similar players out there.

    And looking at our midfield:

Gerrard hasn't performed consistently for 3 years now and rarely has the same impact.
Spearing is decent but not first team quality.
Shelvey and Henderson are top prospects for the future but not ready to command a midfield just yet.
Aqua and Cole look likely to leave - bothered about Cole but Aqua is our best attacking midfielder by far.

Exactly, the players above have been poor, hence why the boss is looking at Allen, it does not matter if they are English, Spanish or Mexican. The boss wants to play a game based on possession football, and has identified Allen as the man he needs to implement that. Allen at 22 will continue to improve and will prove a very shrewd signing indeed.

Let's trust Rodgers here who knows the lad well.

£15 million is nothing in this day and age. Get Allen in, then move on to Dempsey and Ramirez. Business done.

A young Alonso? No pressure there then, lol.

Transfer fees are out of players hands. If he improves the team then fine.

I think Rodgers has the edge over Dalglish when it comes to transfers as Kenny spent time upstairs before replacing Roy. Whereas Rodgers is a current coach. Nice to see him having some money,

I completely understand the signing of Allen - I do rate him but I have my doubts based on his age and price. I think £15m is quite a bit for a player with potential, similar to Henderson. I just feel our money is better spent on players who are more experienced i.e. Suarez and Enrique signed when they were 24/25 - both reaching a high level in their careers.

A good young player....but if the figures quoted are fairly accurate we're paying way over the odds. We could have had Marin AND Siggy for that price (or players of similar ability). It seems we are a bit of a basket case when it comes to transfer dealings these days.

Yes, Alonso took time to settle, he was quiet in his first season. He buzzes around putting in tackles and plays simple one and two touch passes. Very simple, a little bit like Scholes. But these are the best players, football is a simple game complicated by idiots. You get younger players in amateur football trying to dribble through the midfield, nine times out of ten they lose possession and leave there team vulnerable to attack. if you are going to dribble do it in the final third. Quick incisive passing is an art, and the way forward.

Allen's pass completion was as good as anyone in Europe, and he has a great energy. What do you expect to pay £2M? Lol

I just think we should avoid British players full stop, no matter how good they are. Terribly overpriced ...

Where Henderson has potential Allen is already there, he performs week in week out and already compares to any of the top midfielders in the Premiership.

Yeah I suppose you're right. I do think he is a good player and will only get better. Wouldn't be upset or anything if he joined as I feel he could add to the team.
