Oddy, how many above will come out though? Will Bolster go down the Ryanair/GC and I doubt Ballabriggs will run, most of those at the top of the weights must be doubtful, making HOJ over 11stone. If Bolster does run then you would say HOJ is perfect on the weights.

You can guarantee that old boy Quantitativeeasing will be trying extra hard in this heat as he needs to finish in the first 4 if he is to qualify for the Grand National.

Just 2 days to go now and the field has narrowed down a little, although many of those at the top of the weights could still come out. Quantitativeeasing has AP booked so looks a definite runner at this stage. Time For Rupert (Gold Cup) and Walkon (RSA) will surely skip this, as will Cannington Brook, who already has Joe Tizzard against his name for the RSA. Next in the weights will likely be Noland (no other entries at the festival) followed by 2 who could use the race as a Grand National prep - Cappa Bleu and Hector's Choice. All those mentioned thus far fall outside a very strong trend on the official rating of the winner. Nothing rated over 150 has won the race for 29 years and the last 12 winners have had an official rating below 144. Given a pound or so of leeway I have drawn the line at 145 this year - anything above Consigliere is rated too highly to win the race in my opinion.

I am also writing off any horse aged 11+ as they also have an extremely strong trend to overcome - 0/36 since 1997.

At the current weights I would have the winner coming out of the band between 11-2 (Consigliere) and 10-9 (Blenheim Brook) - which still gives us 17 (Mon Mome discarded on age) to go at as of today <yikes>

Working from the highest to lowest:

Consigliere - shot up the weights after winning a poor race at Wincanton and well held in the Racing Plus Chase - still too high for me
Hold On Julio - could he be another Alan King (2 wins and a close 3rd in the last 7 runnings) plot in this race? Despite clouting several at Sandown he won ridiculously easily and is up 15lbs for that. Missed engagements at Doncaster and Kempton since then but has his shrewd trainer been protecting his mark? My idea of the winner if he doesn't clout too many
Zarrafakt - Easy winner LTO from Aldertune (just beaten off 126 yesterday) and up 12lbs for that. Noel Fehily will ride so no 10lbs claim from Conor Quish this time so he is effectively up 22lbs from his last run and that looks a very tough ask for me.
Arbour Supreme - if he runs in this it will be his National prep race - not for me
Leanne - has won her last 2 races and fits Sir Barney's trend of backing Coronation Street stars ;). Difficult to see her being involved at the business end off that weight
Magnanimity - finished 4th in the RSA last year just a length behind Bostons Angel but the form of that race looks poor and he has been well exposed in top races since (Lexus, Hennessy, Bobbyjo Chase). This is however a drop in class and he does have the all-important festival form so may represent a bit of e/w value at 16/1 (possibly bigger on the day)
Matuhi - best form is on good ground and I think Simon Claisse's hose pipes and a rating of 144 may just prove too much for him here. Has 2 other engagements at the festival.
Our Mick - this one I do like alot. Progressive in novice chases throughout the winter he had a crack at Grade 1 company in mid-Feb and was by no means disgraced when 3rd behind For Non Stop and Michael Flips in the rearranged Scilly Isles Novices Chase. Novices have won 3 of the last 8 runnings (would have been 4 if Bensalem hadn't fallen) and he looks a very solid e/w proposition.
Tullamore Dew - fits many of the trends and will be there at the business end but his odds are a little skinny and I just think he will find a few too good. Also engaged in the Plate
Divers - I'm assuming he goes for the Plate with AP on board
Mossley - also engaged in the RSA and I don't believe Mr Henderson will think 142 is an exploitable mark, given his sketchy jumping.
Tharawaat - also engaged in the Martin Pipe Conditionals later in the week, he was only 8 lengths behind Divers at last year's festival and his early season form could give him a squeak here. Been disappointing of late though.
Fruity O'Rooney - won well at Doncaster over christmas, giving a decent Alan King horse Midnight Appeal (subsequent winner) 8lbs and a 3L beating. Upped in class for the Great Yorkshire Chase (where the saddle slipped after the 12th, which may have led to steering problems for Jamie Moore) he ran a terrific race to finish 3rd behind Calgary Bay and Shakalakaboomboom. Has no other engagements at the festival so looks like he'll go here and could have an e/w squeak.
Billie Magern - is also in the Kim Muir. Was staying on behind The Giant Bolster over 2m5f here in January but looks just short of what's required here.
Shakervilz - Fell at the 2nd last just last week so I don't imagine he will line up here. Hard to fancy even if he does, as his best form is with plenty of give.
The Package - looks like a typical Pipe plot - not seen the racecourse for 16 months but finished a head second to Chief Dan George in the 2010 running of this race off a mark of 141 and an obvious danger if running to that form. The absence will be no major issue given the yard's ability to "get one ready" but at 6/1 he makes no appeal to me.
Blenheim Brook - Lucinda Russel is having a fine season and Blenhiem Brook is nothing if not consistent, with 2 wins and 4 seconds from 6 chase starts this season. This looks a bit too hot for him though.

I can't see anything lower in the weights being good enough so my 4 against the field are Hold On Julio, Magnanimity, Our Mick and Fruity O'Rooney. If all 4 run I'll stick them in the placepot and do small stake e/w bets.

Oddy, maybe there is. Watch Invictus' last race- he won off a mark of 150, but there was one of his rivals going well just behind him- getting only four pounds. This one now runs off 133 and must have a great shout.:emoticon-0105-wink:

Balle Anrai? Last time fallers have an awful record at the festival Tam - 0 from 53 I think I heard bandied around last week?

He's also entered in the Kim Muir and is generally a touch shorter in that market. Has the trainer stated his intentions?

I agree he was going well behind Invictus though

Oddy, well worked out. He's got the fall against him but it was an unlucky one. I think he's got a chance whichever race he goes for, but I'm a bit disappointed at his price (too short).
I'll have a little each way on his chosen race.<ok>
