The speculation over Mamadou Sakho's Liverpool future has been going for a few months. And it may continue, although news that the centre-back has signed a new five-year deal at Anfield is designed to change that. Indeed, the 25-year-old has often split opinion during his time on Merseyside but, right now, the majority voice is clear: Liverpool fans think Sakho should be starting; Liverpool fans also think the defender is miles better than Dejan Lovren. That's why plenty of supporters have been absolutely delighted on Twitter since confirmation broke of Sakho putting pen to paper over a new contract with the Reds. What good will that contract be, though, if the Frenchman never plays? Along with delight, then, fans have also responded with a clear message to boss Brendan Rodgers. That message can be condensed down to two words - 'start Sakho.' The aforementioned Lovren looked much improved at the start of the season but then became the victim of the Rodgers curse. The Liverpool boss talked the Croat up and, voila, he endured shockers against both West Ham United and Manchester United. A solution for many, it seems, is to reward Sakho for signing a new deal with the centre-back slot against Norwich on Sunday...
I don't think it's even a close contest. Sakho is miles better than Lovren and really doesn't deserve as much criticism as he gets.
Common sense prevails but I really don't think this is Rodgers's decision. He's never wanted Sakho from Day one and still continues to drop him any opportunity. Well done Sakho - continuously making Rodgers look more and more incompetent.
