Very sad news to learn that Jimmy Hill is suffering from dementia and living in a nursing home near the south coast, too ill to be looked after at home. Puts other troubles into perspective. please log in to view this image Here is a link to an article in the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/10341743/Jimmy-Hills-family-in-turmoil-over-his-battle-with-Alzheimers.html
Very sad news, as a young lad watched Jimmy play many times, part of the Fulham famous five of the 50s along with Haynes,Jezzard,Robson, & Langley. Not a brilliant footballer but a 100% club man, Fulham through and through. Best wishes Jimmy you helped get us where we are today.
I've just heard about his death. Very sad. Most people today don't realise just how influential he was in British football. Rest in peace, Jimmy.
RIP Jimmy Hill. Football ran through his veins and his foresight changed the game for the better and did great work for Fulham, Coventry. And a nice guy!
I'm not a life long supporter of Fulham having come from Aberdeen but Jimmy Hill is a legend. I never got to see "Match of the day" in Scotland either but his name was still famous as Scotland fans would sing "are you watching Jimmy Hill" whenever Scotland were doing well. For what he has done for Fulham and football worldwide I do hope that Fulham recognise his achievements in the forthcoming weeks and give him a great send off and recognition he deserves. The young people of today need to know what an impact he has had on the modern game and Fulham in particular.
Have fond memories of the bad old days in the late 80's & 90's when we used to have discussions with Jimmy after games, some were heated, with him tell us we had been drinking, we told him Fulham drove us to drink and he laughed. But Jimmy was Fulham through & through, and we knew he had the club at heart.
Errmm ... not to worry 2stripes, here's another. From back in the day: please log in to view this image You Lucky People
RIP Jimmy Hill. I hope the club do something to honour him. Not sure there's anything disrespectful on this thread? Am I missing something?
Certainly hope the Club come up with something an awful lot better than the article on the Official site, which looks like a cut and paste job from Wiki. Presumably the programme for the Rotherham match will be dedicated to Jimmy and include stuff from the Golden Oldies. Craving - there was a mindless and extremely offensive post from a person (sic) in Sunderland. Minxy very kindly deleted it on our behalf.
Phew I thought I had said something wrong but couldn't fathom out what A good bronze of Jimmy would be appropriate, sited on the new riverside walkway.
