For football fans of my generation, when it was a choice of the live match, the occasional game on telly or shows like Saint and Greavsie, Jimmy Greaves was a big name. Cracking player as well by all accounts and went through some **** to beat addiction. Anyway, he’s not well and, while I don’t tend to go in for the weeping for a celebrity thing, I wish him all the best and hope he pulls through this latest illness.
He was fantastic at Barnet in the last few years as a player. Would be sad to see him go but he has been struggling for some time so it wouldn't be unexpected. please log in to view this image
Who knew that Tom Robinson played semi-pro footy as well as promoting LGBT rights and fronting a Punk/New Wave band?. Makes you wonder what his right hand is doing behind Greavsie...
Greavsie was a player that I tried to emulate in the school playground, he is a true great of English football.
Before my time unfortunately...never really liked his show...found him and St John pretty irritating...but that was probably my age...was 17 or 18ish
Didn't see much of Greaves play but at the time everyone seemed to agree he was by the best finisher in the country and the footage just seems to back this up since he appears to have never do more than just stroke the ball home .
Phil Collins has made a "substantial donation" to support Jimmy Greaves and his family while Greaves is in hospital. Apparently Collins is a THFC fan and Greaves was his childhood here.
