taken from that link..... the players didnt perform good enough for trolls after lennie left. the players then didnt perform for penney. i heard the players didnt like penney and wanted him out. when campbell then took over, players decided to make an effort because it was their mate in charge but they left it too late to stay up. it was the players not pulling thier weight that got us relegated from league 1, not trolls, not penney and not campbell. i said at the time on the old bbc606 that the players should be ashamed of themselves. buckle got it wrong and mcghee steadied the ship. but looks like during the summer onwards the players were not happy with mcghee and made that known when they crossed the white line. ward needs to get these players out the door and start fresh. these players are killing our club. player power should never have been allowed to go this far. MM should have made examples of people with those who didnt listen to him. higgs should have got involved as well.
Would be nice to have local players in the team are downfall is paying stupid amounts in wages to players who basically don't give a **** Ward has to stop this from happening I would rather have local players from teams like Yate and Mangotsfield and pay them a few hundred quid a week then having a former international who is here just for the cash and shows no pride or passion for the Rovers shirt
It was the players that eventually got Penny sacked no doubt, Cambs got some spirit back but it was too late. Buckle was a totally different story, he completely rebuilt the squad but failed miserably. I'm not up to date on the contract duration of the current squad but the ****s need to understand they are playing for their future as well as Bristol Rovers future. I hope Wardy can put a rocket up their collective asses. Don't get me wrong I'm sure the lads don't enjoy being losers but looking at the players we have, injuries aside, we shouldn't be in this mess. It's time for the players to stand up and be counted.
I've thought for some time that we probably pay our players too much. I don't want us to have one of the largest playing budgets in our league. We need hungry players who want to play for BRISTOL ROVERS, knowing that if they do well they will attract scouts from clubs. I don't want player X to come to us rather than another club because we pay better than most clubs.
here here bad news though, i found someone to come along with me for the rotherham game taking advantage of the free ticket. due to work commitments he has been to about 15 games over the last 4 seasons with me. he hasnt seen rovers win a game yet. he went to both home games vs plymouth where we went 2-0 up and lost 3-2. both times at 2-0 he said about time i will see a win. then we lose. so if we lose or draw, its his fault. not mine
The comment re Paterson is a good one however I feel that Patersons legs have gone so this is probably his last season with us before he departs you may even find that Ward puts him out on loan at some stage. As for Campbell one thing he did do was give us our club back not sure why Higgs did not do a Lennie Trolls type arrangement when we dropped to L2 if he felt that Campbell was not experienced enough at the time to cover off the role as Manager and coach,he lost a good prospect and a fan of our club. I and a number of my friends have for the first time ever lost interest in the saga and are undecided if we are going on Sat (the clubs already enjoying our cash anyway), as there is not much in the way of input Ward will have had in such a short space of time, other than they will play for there futures and place in the starting lineup.Unfortunately Christmas looms large and need to make a start on buying stuff. I also find it difficult to understand why that Mr Higgs and fellow directors, seem to avoid acknowledging there part in our current predicament and how they are amending the selection process (not sure if they have one) to ensure that we at least have a manager for a few seasons as with Trolls and Lennies time at least they can own the problem or success. It really looks like a quick fix appointment (no offence to Ward) if it does not work what a the reprecussions to the people that selected him. COR
There are plenty of technically good players around. A lot of our players are technically pretty good. However, there aren't so many of these players who are also leaders. All successful teams have a smattering of good leaders out there who dig in and give that extra ten per cent when the chips are down. Things started to go wrong when Elliot and Disley were shown the door. Even Hinton was a leader. Campbell was a great leader, but when he left and Lines left, at a stroke we had lost our leadership. Matt Gill is the quietest skipper I have ever seen. Gary Kenneth is outstanding, and we need more with his sort of presence and leadership.Clarkson leads by example. So I think Ward needs to recruit very carefully and bring in a couple of influencial leaders. Then I think we'll be more than ok.
Why some players when they come to play for us just can't be ****ed it in some ways could ruin there career as who else would want to sign them if they can't bothered to put any effort in Eaves obviously wants to impress the Bolton manager and coaches so maybe soon he can have a crack at the first team
