Sunderland AFC ‏@SAFCofficial 53s Striker Ji Dong-won has joined German side Augsburg on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
Came out of nowhere that! Kinda gutted as think he could of made an impact myself...not only that but we could of made £5m in summer...
bye ... and thanks for this
Got to say this is a relief as he just didn't have the necessary ability, both physically and mentally, to make it in the EPL imo. I'm sure this is best for both us and the player and I wish the lad well tbh. The ponderable thing now of course is what does this tell us? Is the exit of one striker the green light for another to be brought in such as this lad Scocco who has been heavily linked and discussed or, is Wickham returning at the end of the month now, or more worryingly, is it the green light for one Danny Graham to return to us? With Jelavic and now Long seemingly Hull bound, they wont want a non scoring centre forward will they or they would have made an offer for him. I hope for the former, would maybe accept the middle option but dread the latter happening personally.
Really wish the lad well, it can't have been an easy time for him, thanks for that goal ......... one of favourite memories of the last decade
Neither the club nor Augsbury have stated the fee Even twitter sources are struggling to find one Apparently however Augsbury arent exactly rich so cant expect more than £2-3m
Cheers for the 3 points against Citeh. All the best Ji Think he'll excel with more time on the ball. British football was just too much for him.
Loved him for that ABOVE but then hated him for that non-header against Crystal Palace. Hopefully means 1 out, 1 in.
GUS POYET says the negotiations over Ji Dong-won’s return to German side Augsburg began and ended this week. Ji’s two-and-a-half year stint on Wearside came to an end today after the South Korean striker moved to the Bundesliga until the end of the season for an undisclosed fee. The Echo revealed last weekend that Augsburg, where Ji spent the final six months of last season on loan, were interested in re-signing the 22-year-old, who was out of contract at the end of the campaign. And head coach Poyet says that when the German outfit made an official approach earlier this week, the deal was concluded swiftly after Ji’s only appearances under the Uruguayan came in this month’s Stadium of Light clashes against Aston Villa and Carlisle. Poyet said: “We were not even thinking about this possibility, it was all done in three days. “There was a decision to make and we made that, and he’s gone to Germany. “It’s simple. Everything came together to the point where it was good for everybody. “He had six months left on his contract, was not playing week-in, week-out, so it’s a situation that you need to analyse. “The player wants to play football too. “We wish him well because for some reason that I don’t know, it didn’t work out for him at Sunderland. Let’s hope it works for him there. “He’s been in and out of the team, in and out of the club. “He’s a very good lad, a different class person, with plenty of qualities. “But it’s not only about players, it’s about the whole squad.”
I think you may well be way off the mark there mind - only 6 months left on his contract we will be lucky to get 500k- 1m for him, still with that kind of money we could go and buy Frazer Cambell
