Sunderland striker Ji Dong-Wong must spend a minimum of 21 months in South Korea's armed forces and must have begun that stint by the time he turns 30, reports the Sunday Sun. Fortunately for Black Cats boss Steve Bruce exceptions can be made and, if the Red Devils finish in a medal position in the Olympics football tournament, the 20 year old and his team-mates could be given an exemption. Bruce said: "In Korea there is a rule about national service, and as it stands Ji would have to serve his time like everyone else. "But the Korean government has the power to make exceptions and I'm told that if the Olympic football team finishes first, second or third in the tournament then the entire squad would be exempt. "That would be great for Ji, because it would mean that he wouldn't have to break his footballing career. "So I've got good reason to cheer on South Korea next summer - after Great Britain, of course!" For all the latest football news go to
You got me with this one! I've just spat out a whole mouthful of Chateauneuf-du-Pape all over my keyboard you sod!
This is rubbish as I work with a lad who has just got out of it by landing a post doc position so you can get out of it as long as you have something legitimate to do.... perhaps footy not viewed that way in south Korea like and science type stuff is.
