Blues boss Paul Jewell conceded that Townâs 4-5-1 formation may be more suited to away games after Townâs 1-0 home defeat to Hull City. - " Jewell said: âIt may possibly be a formation which works better away from home but weâve got to have the personnel. " Thought as much. Looks a good system to counter attack on the road and quite solid, however not sure it will let us dictate games at home.
Is that not rather worrying, it is something that has been talked about since last season by many and yet after 8 new signings we still don't have the right personnel!!!
It is indeed worrying Spanish but more worrying is that it's right; we don't yet have the personnel! 4-5-1 at home is here to stay for a while I think - how depressing!
Well he's brought 8 in, that were all needed. We're just so damn badly short at CB. Could also do with a creative central mid then we're kinda moving forwards.... As for 4-5-1 being viewed with doom and gloom, I don't view it as this for us. We have two attacking full backs to push on, with 2 wingers + a central mid at least to get right up attacking. We're hardly going to set the ground running with this many changes, be nice if it all clicked straight away however I'd say thats fairly unlikely...... 2 new cb's + 1 mid by Aug 31 please !
Jewell has lost the plot. A bloody 8 year old could tell you it's a stupid formation to play at home, unless you're playing Arsenal or something! He expects goals from his CBs not from his forwards that's what we've not realised about the formation!!! His comments have seriously damaged my faith in the man.
Bloody hell Lancs not you aswell, whats going on with you all? Why all the doom and gloom? You need to be positive like me!!
Because losing games and taking time to assemble a squad is one thing, but to play 4-5-1 and complain about your striker 'making some good runs but not getting enough help'. FFS the man needs a bloody rocket up him.
It wasn't that we didn't have the players that was the problem, it was that PJ wouldn't drop one of Kennedy, Leadbitter or Bowyer to include Carson in the starting line up and move JET more central. We need to be more attacking at home and take a bit of a risk, although it's a bit of a concern that Martin is injured as that is likely to mean that JET has to stay on the wing and Carson comes in to replace Martin, which leaves us with the same stupid formation, unless Jewell includes Ellington (who I actually think is ok, especially at holding the ball up)
I hate to say it, but the players we really could do with are McAuley, Norris and Wickham. That's what we're lacking.
Agree we need McAuley and Wickham would be good but what does Norris add that we are missing? We need creativity not headless chickens
Yorkie I really think you have lost the plot! David Norris FFS! Why the hell would you bring back the headless chicken who has proven over 3 painfull seasons that he just isn't good enough!
I'm not losing any sleep over that Warky trust me.. The McAuley situation we couldn't do anything about although he has left a gaping hole in the side that we are not looking like plugging at least until January, but how can Jewell say we don't have the personnel to play 4-4-2 when they chose to cash in on Wickham? We HAD the personnel PJ but you sold him!
The back four wasn't the problem on Saturday (for a change) it was a pretty disorganised and almost clueless performance when it came to imagination. I never like to see two Town players having a go at each other (as I did Saturday) but it does suggest that there is some confusion as to who should be doing what and that the formation is just wrong.
Yorkie I said at the time that selling Wickham would be a huge mistake and so it is proving. Even an 8 year old could see that we are just so isolated up front and that our Midfield are not joining in support quick enough. Our defence is so cack at the moment that the Midfield is having to play far too deep and as we don't have a quality play maker in the side we are resorting to the same old hoof balls out of defence. Happy times indeed!
Norris was cack in every other way apart from scoring around 10 a season and his attitude. For a midfielder his use of the ball was incredibly bad. We need someone who can create, which should be JET played through the middle. Leadbitter and Bowyer can chip in, we have decent wingers in Martin and Carson, Chopra can get 20, we have two full backs who can score and if we had CBs who could score at corners we would have goals throughout the team. It all comes down to the way we play, not the players we have.
Stockdale. Edwards. Inga. Delaney. Cresswell. Leadbitter. Andrews. Martin. Priskin. JET. Chopra. Our defence is crap, stating the obvious. In order to counter this we are trying to cover with 3 central players. Now I haven't been to a game yet this season so I cannot comment on who has been most impressive out of Leadbitter/Bowyer and from whatever we may have seen of Andews. But I really don't like the idea of 3 in the middle, it is almost like admitting that we have 3 average players that need to do the work that 2 decent midfielders could do. Not ideal but I think Priskin can do a job on the wing allowing JET to play where he has stated he plays best!
I like what you said Yellow Leadbitter, especially about 3 doing the work of two lol. I'm like most on here and think we should play 4-4-2 (or 4-4-1-1) at home with Martin and Carson on the wings and Jet or Priskin behind Chops.
