I think this pretty much sums up how clueless Jewell is! Leadbitter leads the team by example according to Jewell! Well forgive me but isn't that why we are in this downward spiral in the first place? Jewell says that the captain of a football team isn't important like Cricket or Rugby. I would strongly argue that the Captain is the focal point of the team and should be a source of inspiration to his team mates, not go missing like Leadbitter so often does. If losing possession, passing the ball sideways and being powderpuff in the tackle is leading by example then Leadbitter's your man!

Just take a look at some of the previous captains who have worn the Blue & White over the years. DeVos, Holland, Linighan, Butcher, Mills, Nelson can you honestly say that they weren't players that inspired their team mates. Please get a grip Jewell as your press comments get more bizarre by the day. I acknowledge that we don't have many contracted players that are Captain material but again this is down to incompetence in not bringing someone who could easily assume the Captain's role. Traditionally a big strong no nonsense Centre Half would have been ideal.

Collins & Andrews are more captain material for me, if and when they become permanent.

I havent seen the report but judging on your version its seems very bizarre. I dont think Leadbitter warrants a place in the first team but even if he did you wouldnt associate him with leadership or inspiration. Not that I like the guy but I would give it to Bowyer. He used to be an animal but I think age has improved his personality yet I would still not want to get on the wrong side of him. Personally i would also play Bowyer more centrally. If anyone can frustrate opposing players in our team then it must be him.

JWM i agree Leadbitter is not really captain material and hopefully IMO not a long term option as captain, and I think this is how Jewell see's it aswell. As I've said before I don't think Jewell had alot of choice but to appoint Leadbitter as Captain as I don't believe its right to really appoint a Captain as someone who has just come to the club, hence buying a captain. I think if we do get Andrews or Collins on a permanent deal that they could be potential good captains but I don't think midway through the season is the right time to change the captaincy, it should be done next summer.

i agree 100% that leadbitter shouldnt be in the team let alone captain. however who would you have instead? we need a captain who is actually a permanent member of the club so who are the options......
there isn't any! when you look at a squad and no one is a possible captain, I have to say that its a worrying truth!

You just have to look at the spine of our team to tell you how bad we are! Stockdale (Loan), Collins (Loan), Bullard (No Legs), Chopra (Off field issues). It hardly strikes fear into the opposition does it. The worrying thing is that our 3 best players could be gone in January!

JWM - U think we have had 3 decent players this season
I can name Stockdale and Cresswell - other than that it gets difficult

    Stockdale.

    Edwards. Ivar. Collins. Wabara.

    Martin. Andrews. Bullard. Cresswell.

    JET.
    Chopra.

Really feel we need some width and pace, Carson is obviously another option but with the quality of Cresswell's left foot I would like to see him in a more attacking role for once. Packing the midfield with sideways passing lads that rarely make a bursting run forward may allow us to keep the ball for periods of time but it rarely gets us anywhere. Lets take the game to the opposition for once!

I agree Leadbitter should not be captain, and rarely in the team. Jimmy's performances have been hit and miss this season but I feel handing the captaincy, although maybe a risk would probably help lift his performances. I can see why it is better to have a permanent fixture as the captain but if they're going to do the job while they're here then Collins and Andrews seem to fit the bill.

No way does Leadbitter lead by example, he has had a terrible season, and count himself lucky not to have been dropped. However I agree with Jewell, a football captain is not as important as a captain in Cricket or Rugby. In Football all the team should play as captains, if I was in charge I would change the captain on a regular basis. The list of ex captains that JWM gave were just very good players in their own right, you could never have got much more inspiring players than Kevin Beattie, and Allan Hunter, and they were never captains, its about ability on the pitch, having a different captain on a regular basis, would be much better for team moral.

And what would a binner post be without a nostalgic trip back to 'good old days?'
