Heard a rumour today, don't know how correct but apparently JET missed training yesterday to be in london to have talks with Fulham in a 3.5 million pound move!!!!! Don't really know what to make of it, on one hand its a hell of a profit for an inconsistent performer, And we could do a lot with the money. But on the other hand i don't like to see young players sold off like that! what do you guys think?
I want him to stay, will this happen though, surely Clegg & Evans are far to busy with their "Olympic" comitments to be worrying about their real job at the moment..?
I have heard these rumours too and all I can say is that if JET is sold it will be yet another nail in the coffin for our football club! I suspect that Evans has lost all interest in Ipswich Town and will be happy to cash in on a sizeable profit. When you consider that we can't shell out £1 Million on a decent Championship Striker I think that tells you all you need to know about the extent of our ambitions!
Its possibly one of those transfer where you dont mind it happening currently but in 2 or 3 years time you wonder why you ever accepted such a low bid. He has talent but he is either brilliant or terrible. £3.5 sounds like an amount which could be helpful for bolstering the rest of the team and we have Carson/ Drury/ Martin who we could move around so its not likely to leave us desperately short but we would need to add height and a physical presence. Probably would have to go with keep but it really is a 60/40 equation for me.
I really don't know how to feel about this, I just have this sneaking suspicion JET will be one of those players that will never really put everything into football, so perhaps it's better to cash in and bolster the side, perhaps get in Davies who can play out wide or up front. JET on his day can be a game changer, but when he isn't on it he is a liability. so i would probably fall into the sell him camp (this will probably keep changing during the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
My problem with this is will the money we get all go into investing in the team or will it go straight into Evans back pocket like the Wickham money has?
Its definately a worry JWM, I like the way we are sticking to our guns over Davies though, its much better than Magiltons way off doing business where he would walk into an office flashing money around and we get done over. If the money is invested back into the squad then i think it would be good business, if not and it goes to Cleggy's next DIY SOS project then it wouldn't be good business.
Dont forget alot of the money from the Wickham sale went towards keeping us out of the red last year. Its a difficult balances act between keeping the playing side at a decent level against keeping the club in a sustainable situation. As Guru has said, now we have moved way from the JM/ RK chucking money away period then hopefully a bit more of any income can go towards improving the team.
if we get offered £3.5m for JET then take the money and scarper! We have too many options as it is in attacking midfield.
I think if Jewell decides to let him go, and for that amount of money, i reckon it's because Wickham could be coming back to town, for a season loan deal, and then pay the extra for Davies. If that happens, then we have Martin, Drury, Hyam, Stevenson, Wickham, Luonga, Kouromia who could play in midfield, with Martin, Wickham and Stevenson being able to operate just behind the front man, if that's the system he wants...which then gives us Chopra, Murray and Davies (and Wickham) up front.
Obviously you lads have seen far more of JET than I have, but I'm amazed anyone is offering £3.5m for him, in the games I saw him in for both you and Cardiff he looked more like a £350k player, than a £3.5m player.
I would only sell him if the money is reinvested into the squad in terms of transfer fees. That £3.5 million could get us the 3 or 4 players we need to challenge for play off places. However, I find this hard to believe to be honest
" if we get offered £3.5m for JET then take the money and scarper! We have too many options as it is in attacking midfield. " I beg to differ...... Let me try and reason this logically 1- Lee Martin - Absolutely key. 2- Josh Carson - Could be a massive player, but look at last season he did very little. Jewell slated him for his weight / contract demands - get your head down and play like you can, then you'll be an asset. 3- Ryan Stevenson. Did okay last season, however hasn't had a great pre season. How good is he at this level ? We have no idea yet. 4- Who else do we have in attacking midfield? Drury possibly, however he seems better deeper. Him and Hyam were brilliant at CM together. He seems more an all around than a particularly attacking threat. I'm not sure I count him as an attacking midfielder? 5- Literally who else are you thinking of? Edwards possibly when the Macclesfield defender comes back from injury? I personally feel we could do with another ontop of keeping JET! As for the £3.5 million fee - a tough one. However, these are the questions I'm gonna ask myself. 1- Are we likely to get a player in with the same ability as JET? NO 2- Would we reinvest the £3.5 million ? NO I'd love to see a full season of him fully fit. He was horrifically unfit at the start, however much better after January and a very good player 2nd half of the season. I feel JET + Martin + Chopra as an attacking 3 with other players around them is as good as literally anything in this league. We have shortcomings in other areas, however that front 3 really does excite me! For them reasons, I'd like to see him stay. Imagine if him and Martin both leave before the start of the season, we'd be in massive trouble!
Well given that CDM is covered by Luongo and Hyam you have all these players vying for three places: Emmanuel Thomas Bullard Carson Martin Drury Stevenson Lawrence plus Peters plus possibly Edwards
Peters won't play for us again so we can rule him out Bullard currently isn't in the picture so same again Edwards will be right back so lets go same again for now Martin + Carson granted Drury I think will vie with Luango and Hyam How good is Lawrence? I forgot about him, but at 16 how ready is he going to be? I think he'll certainly push on though and get some appearances! We're short enough in this position for me. Take JET out, and lets say we're playing 4-5-1.......... Martin + Carson wide with Stevenson off Chopra doesn't inspire much confidence to me. Keeping JET I'd say is essential.
