According to the Daily Star. So read on with a pinch of salt. QPR are lining up £4m Jermaine Jenas to replace shamed skipper Joey Barton. Barton was hit with a 12-game ban by the FA on Wednesday after his red card disgrace at Manchester City. The controversial midfielder will now miss the first three months of the next campaign. With QPR looking into sacking Barton, boss Mark Hughes is ready to make a move for the Tottenham midfielder. Jenas, 29, signed a one-year extension to his Spurs deal in March, tying him to the club until 2014. But he has fallen down the White Hart Lane pecking order and is currently without a squad number. Jenas was loaned out to Aston Villa for the season last summer. But he had an injury-hit nightmare spell at Villa Park and returned to Spurs after rupturing his Achilles in December. When he regains fitness, Jenas faces a huge fight for regular first-team football at Spurs, something Sparky will be able to offer. Manchester City hardman Nigel de Jong, who Hughes signed when he was in charge at the Etihad Stadium, is another midfielder on his list of potential Barton replacements. Barton was handed separate four-game bans for elbowing Carlos Tevez, kicking Sergio Aguero and trying to headbutt Vincent Kompany in Rangers’ 3-2 final-day defeat. Rangers owner Tony Fernandes and Hughes are due to meet to discuss Barton’s future next week. Coach Marc Bircham reckons Barton could be loaned out next season to a foreign club. Bircham said: “When they first come back, the gaffer will sit down with Joey and probably the owners. “After the internal investigation, they will sit down and see where they are going. “You never know, you can get loaned out abroad to get games under your belt. That is maybe an option the club might look to.” Hughes is also ready to reignite his interest in £5m Birmingham keeper Ben Foster, with Paddy Kenny expected to leave in the summer for Leeds.
what about that lad who we were suppose to loan of spurs but he ended going back to everton and scored a load of goals. sorry dont know his name.
His name has been linked to us for the past year!. If he was injury free and had been playing, then a decent player...but after a serious injury, most of last season out and closing in on 30,I think its a risk. I ruptured my achilles playing tennis and its a shocker.Youre betting off breaking your anckle!
£4m is too much , take him on loan, if it works out get him for next to nothing in Jan as his contract is almost up. too injury prone for me, also better than Diakite or Ale ? not sure.
Would give us some much needed experience but really dont think he's an improvement on what we have.. We need to get a good established midfield general to look after Ali, Diakite,Tarb etc.... Whats Paul Scholes doing next year ?!!
No thanks. Another light weight too prone to injury and not up to the job. Jenas is still judged on his form as a youngster but hasn't been any use for years. Can anyone remember the last game he played and if he was any good? Anyone recall his last goal and did it make any difference? Add Jenas to the now gigantic list of names being linked to QPR.
He's another con artist. Does **** all, has never done anything and somehow has always played for good clubs and been in England squads.
Morning all, Jermaine Jenas a repalcement for Joey Barton **** OFF I don't know who should be more offended.
Assuming we sack Barton, then he would replace Barton for the first 12 games - hanging around the training ground doing f&@k all. I'd rather we didn't pay $4 million for him to do so though.
Remarkably similar story in today's Times regarding all these comings and goings, which may say something, with Jenas/Barton getting the headline. Personally, I'd prefer someone fitter, younger and better than Jenas.
Saw Jenas and Dyer discussing injuries together on sky sports a few months back. Think that tells you all you need to know.
