How did Defoe fare today? Can't watch the game on Saturdays (I'm an actual Yiddo) and I really do rate Defoe and want him to get more game time. Heard his goal was another trademark 20-25 yarder and he linked up well with Adebayor! Would Defoe be able to keep VdV out of the team for next game? Great win for Spurs! Away wins against the "weaker" sides were one of our greatest weakness and its something we've significantly improved on! Lets hope we can keep it up
He had a mixed game. Very quiet in the first half, but then linked up well in patches with Adebayor in the second, playing some lovely stuff between them at times, especially for his goal. Very nice run and finish, from the halfway line up to the edge of the box. http://www.101greatgoals.com/adebayor-2-defoe-see-spurs-to-comeback-win-at-west-brom/116777/ If van der Vaart's fit, then he'll come back in, in my opinion.
Over on the Mickey Mousers' board, someone has posted a thread mooting the possibility of taking Defoe in the January window, and one of the other posters has piped up with a "Defoe's not good enough for us" type argument. This, coming from a fan who has put his faith in a manager that believes donkey Carroll was worth paying £35 million for! You couldn't make this kind of thing up! Carroll isn't fit to polish Defoe's boots.
Carroll's a good prospect playing in a side that doesn't take advantage of his capabilities. He and Suarez should be an extremely effective partnership, but they choose to focus almost solely on the Uruguayan, for some reason.
Partly due to the fact that it would be a HECK of a long way down! Carroll would have to be helicoptered back up again or something.
Wait until the Euros fella. I bet Jemaine is sitting in a TV studio giving his opinions and that pony tailed donkey is over there with the squad.
While I'm glad Defoe is scoring again - it remains the case that he wouldn't be a starter for any of last year's top four and would probably be fourth of fifth choice at the Mancs. He needs to realise that he's got the choice of being on the bench for Spurs with a chance of trophies and playing in the CL or playing every week for a mid-table side.
He's a good striker. Proven premiership class. Unfortunately, for him, he can't play the lone striker role, he doesn't hold the ball up well, and as Ade is a must have, it's a matter of who fits best with him. At the moment, that's VDV, IMO. That doesn't mean Defoe's a bad striker - he's just competing for a place in a very good team.
Defoe does seem to have a very good understanding with Adebayor, though. Considering that they've barely played together, some of their movement and little touches here and there are very much on the same wavelength. Nice to have options, eh? Perhaps Defoe can work on playing the lone striker role in the Europa League? I'd expect him to start against PAOK, but I'm not sure who else is available.
If both are fit...VdV every time, he's capable of so much more and nothing is going to change that. JD's post match interview did not show any sign of frustration, quite the opposite, he applauded the size/quality of the squad saying its a great place to be atm.
