    That 3rd link - Menez then Sturridge coming in, Barton and Nolan on new contracts and somehow Enrique decides these players will push the club forward and stays...

    Pardew has revealed he believes he is close to securing his first signing of the summer, and Menez could well be the player he is referring to.

    He told the Sunday Sun: "I think we're close on one player which we would like to get over the line.

    "And I can say that because he's an international player - not someone who belongs to one of the bottom four battling relegation."

    **Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old French international and Newcastle could face a battle to capture Menez in the summer if they decide to step up their interest and launch a concrete bid.
