I never used to understand how people watch that shhite, despite it being a popular programme.

Never watched it but used to see advertised clips of it, that took joy out of people's unfortunate lives and behaviours.

Now someone has topped themselves. Great entertainment <doh>

I'm not ultra senstive but surely this crap has no place in the 21st Century....jeez a guy gets sacked for posting up a pic of a monkey, yet this programme broadcasts monkey behaviour everyday....well no, I correct that, monkeys are better behaved.

The programme is hopefully going to be a RIP thread. And maybe Jeremy will be so traumatised at losing his job that he....

I was talking to Mrs luv and my oldest the other day and said it's pure exploitation and they were telling me to get a grip, one dead guy later. <whistle>

The people who chose to appear on that show did so willingly. They chose to air their dirty laundry in public for whatever reason. Whether that was infamy or a genuine desire to get answers to their issue I’ve no idea.

That show did some good work with addicts in fairness and also helped reunite families, it’s been labelled as poverty porn wrongly imo.

From what i saw on a news clip....

The programme would invite a father along to try and reunite him with his daughter....but then proceed to tear him apart for his past behaviours. I don't see why any presenter has the right to play judge and jury on someone's life. I think it's disgusting. But if it did good fair enough, but not the sort of programme i would ever bring myself to watch, it's stomach churning having to watch people's domestic misery in life.

I saw a news item this morning where (i think it was) the mental health charities want the programme off air.

It's a horrible programme that used the vulnerable for entertainment. They are even told what to wear when they get there to look the part.

I’m surprised Kyle hasn’t been jumped on the street. I’ve seen the show and he can be really abusive to some people who, arguably, aren’t that interested in the law.

There are people coming out saying that this is the tip of the iceberg and saying there is no support after the show, they maybe disgruntled ex employees and I don't really care but we'll soon see.

What’s happened is that a guy was on the show to do a lie detector as his partner thought he’d been cheating on her. He failed the test, she dumped him and he topped himself. You could argue that if he doesn’t go on the show, and isn’t exposed as a liar then that doesn’t happen, but equally she could have gone with her gut instinct and dumped him anyway. There’s no way of knowing. There’ll be loads of pious moralising about it and it’ll be canned, but given it ran for 14 years and this was the first incident of that sort, then I think it’s unlikely that the aftercare was ****e.

I’ll never understand the mentality behind why anybody would want to air their dirty laundry on TV, but I don’t buy the angle that this show was doing some kind of community service.

It was first and foremost designed to be controversial entertainment. Jeremy Kyle is a chav baiter. Goading vulnerable people into making arses of themselves.

I think there was an element of both tbh mate. I think it did save some vulnerable people with its addicts programme, but wouldn’t argue that there was an element of piss taking out of idiots either. As for the thought process behind people choosing to appear on it, there was probably plenty who wanted their 15 minutes.

The people coming out saying about the aftercare problems are bound to be ex employees. I also agree about the moralising, all of a sudden everyone will be on the bandwagon saying how cruel and exploitative the whole show is but it's ran for over a decade and there are bound to be some positive outcomes over the years. You can also put your house on the fact that the people calling for the show to be axed now will be the same Faceache idiots who sit and watch it every morning.

Personally I don't watch it and have said for years that it's a bit wrong in that they are taking advantage of people but a lot of the people on there are pure scum and get what they deserve by putting themselves on there.

It became a way for scummy people to get on TV. It was like you weren’t anybody on the estate until you’d been on Kyle to brag about your trashy life.

Agreed. I haven’t ever watched it tbh, just seen clips of the most controversial moments.

But it stands that if you volunteer yourself to go on that show, then you can’t really have any complaints about it.

I dont watch that type of bullshit trash TV to be honest.
    BUT........
The people were willing participants, and were presumably paid handsomely for their trouble.
Why the **** would you volunteer to do a lie detector if you know you are guilty?!
The kind of idiot who would do that......if he topped himself, as harsh as it sounds, I dont think he is going to be a sore loss to society, as much as people like to virtue signal. If he loved his missus he:

    a) Shouldn't have cheated
    and
    b) Shouldn't have volunteered to do a lie detector, at least if you refuse there is still some small element of doubt (ask Rio Ferdinand)

The ONLY way I would attribute ANY blame to Jeremy Kyle or his show is if the guy DIDN'T cheat and they rigged the test for entertainment value, ie they ****ed his life up to boost their ratings, then they would have some measure of culpability. Otherwise this is just bullshit blame culture.
