"Swansea are prepared to smash their transfer record to land the 22-year-old Iceland ace, a price between £6m and £8m thought to be enough to seal his signing." I told you £7 mill !!! Trust the mystic meg/septic peg who predicted we would finish 11th pre-season!!
Now lets make a permanent move for Caulker, a second striker and loanees to bolster (wishful thinking)
GREAT news!!!! Good luck, Huw, don't miss out on him for the sake of a few quid. Siggy will do wonders for us. He has already fitted in, imagine just how much better he'll be when he's had solid, quality time with the team. Fingers crossed. guys.
If it goes down , & that's a big if , 50% sell on for sure & I can live with that if it keeps the cost down .... PRETTY EXCITED !!
Ripped off if a 50% sell on. Perhaps full payment with 15% (max) on sale above what we buy him for. They haven't even been paying him since they loaned him. He doesn't even want to play for them and a bird in the hand is ...
50% ... I almost guarantee it swimaway , it's the only way we'll be able to compete with the bigger club who won't want any sell on but will pay more up front ... time ill tell !! 5.5million with 50% sell on
I guess it will, but I hope I'm right as otherwise (if it was me) I would turn the deal down Lets not forget, we move early before the stupid season starts! A bird in the hand ..... PS I always play hardball in my everyday negotiations and recognise the same with our board.... If I can save £5 on a £2000 deal ... watch out (much to my 'superiors' dismay). Company costs come first rather than emotions.
Time to take a chance , Sig is quality & young ... If we keep him for a long time , it will pay. If he grows & leaves & we get 10 million , got him for nothing really . If he flops , well that's what chances are about & it's time to take one swimaway ... that's my take Cheers !
f His wages are not cheap, which is a bargaining tool in our favour (can they turn down a guarantee for a potential liability). We make the move early and they will bite. Thats my take
If they insist on a 50% sell on I wouldn't pay more than 4-4.5 million max. How about 5.5 million with a 25-30% sell on. If it goes well and we sell him for at least 10 we get 7-7.5 = a 2 million + profit for our role in his development. If it goes pear shaped we hope to move him on for aprox. 5 and Hoffenheim get around 1.7 meaning they received in total nearly 7.5 million = a small profit (in terms of transfer fees at least). Of course if someone's in their ear saying they'll pay 10 + they can tell Jenkins to do one...in that scenario it's up to Siggy to put his foot down, or maybe he quite fancies Newcastle/Arsenal
The power is with Sig. If we make an offer like I described above it is almost inconceivable that Hoffenheim will not get their money back on him and it's a deal Swansea could afford. Yes Hoffenheim won't be profiting as they might have hoped, that was always a risk they were taking. Sig might argue through his agent that he owes Hoffenheim nothing after they dumped him in the reserves for a year, frankly they don't deserve to make a fat profit. If Sig indicates he wants to join Swansea and will sit tight for the last year of his contract rather than move somewhere where he might end up in the reserves again just to make Hoffenheim money, they will have to sell him to us. 2 questions remain; i) does Sig WANT to live and work in Swansea where he will be the lynchpin of the team for the foreseeable or does he think he's good enough for European football now and is prepared to take a chance to realise that ambition? ii) has Huw indicated to him or his agent how much he can expect to be paid should he join and what his minimum release fee would be? Ultimately Sig will decide where he plays next year.
I'm genuinely surprised that we have a chance at signing him, and we clearly do if Huw Jenkins is flying to Germany. It's tough to call this one. I just really hope that one of the big clubs don't come in for him, promising first team football and feeding him a load of lies like Chelsea did to Sidwell, then making him a squad player. The big selling point for us is that he will be the lynchpin of the side. He's showed signs of being the kind of player that you can build a team around, well, a team like Swansea anyway. One things for sure though, he's not an unknown quantity anymore and he's going to be closely marked next season, especially by holding midfielders. They'll be all over him.
He'll still be young if and when he leaves us in a few years. I've been agreeing with others that around £7 is the absolute max. £5M with some sort of sell on deal sounds right. Like you say, the player has the power. Ivor you've let me down mate. There I was praising you to the skies on the awards thread saying how sensible you are then you say "for the sake of a few quid".
I'm basing my whole 50% sell on off of the 4 million offer already made . Within the rumors of what a lot of clubs might offer , a can't imagine anyone offering 4 million without the 50% sell on in place , not even us .
I'm glad that you lot aren't in charge of the negotiations, otherwise we wouldn't be able to sign him. Let Huw do his job.
I'll be delighted if we make this deal. However, the biggest priority has to be a quality CB to partner Williams if we can't get Caulker. And a backup. And another striker.
Think £5m max with a sell on clause of about 15%-20% or £6m with no clause at all. That is what we should be looking at, anymore and we be risking to much I think.
