HUW Jenkins reckons the success of Swansea City's previous managers means they are about to land a top-class boss. And with Michael Laudrup the favourite to take over, Jenkins has suggested the burgeoning reputations of Rodgers and Liberty predecessor Roberto Martinez have prompted a higher class of applicant at Swansea this summer. "We have proved at Swansea City that managers can grow into high-calibre managers by working with us," he said. "And I think as a result, we have developed a new respect in the football world. People on the outside have seen how Brendan and Roberto have risen up the ladder and that they are now regarded as two of the best managers in the Premier League. "What has happened to them has opened up new avenues for us that simply were not there in the past. "People can see now that Swansea City is a good place to come and work. "They recognise that there is a good environment at this club, with a settled way of playing in place which has worked very well for us. "All that does not go unnoticed." Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Laudrup is the most glamorous name to have been linked with the Swansea vacancy, while the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Marcel Desailly and Gianfranco Zola have also been mentioned. Laudrup is thought to be among the leading contenders to land the job this week alongside Ian Holloway, Gus Poyet and Graeme Jones. It would not be a huge surprise should another contender emerge at the last minute, as happened with Paulo Sousa three years ago. "A lot of names have been mentioned, and I think people have probably put forward candidates who suit the way we operate," Jenkins added. "People may have put two and two together and come up with what they think are ideal candidates for Swansea City. "I am not going to talk about specific names, but what I would say is that at least people are starting to realise what our club is about. - EP PS: GJ must be dead and buried after this statement from Huw Jenkins, but at least the new high calibre applicants, are cuing up now to get into the Swansea City School of Football Management!.....................
Good day to you Mabon! He's looking the likely appointment, though you can never rule out a late unknown from Huw! But these are very reassuring words from Jenkins, was down my local last night, and everyone in the bar was up beat regarding Laudrup, so fingers crossed that we get a top coach in!..................
From the article Which blows out of the water Superswan's vitriol about him not working! http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/S...ng-class-new/story-16321727-detail/story.html
I would say good on you for saying we need a top class manager, Jenkins in you we trust dont know if its luck or what in the past we have been lucky with who you have picked, for the sake of our club we hope you get it right this time I have watched the Swans for over 60yrs. S T I D
Seems you've backed the right horse here Ivor, hope you made some money out of it! Well said Penlan.....................
Hope its laudrup too, it would be nice to have somebody high profile to help us sign players, while buck did great things here he was only known as a coach and did not have a massive reputation to players that had'nt worked with him before.
Which blows out of the water Superswan's vitriol about him not working! sorry he is lying yet again top manager would be nice if they can play our style. as usual he is feeding you a load of spin and mr gullible jack swallows it hook line and sinker..... we will eventually get a manager but he should be here doing the job now......all other clubs can get a manager in days but jinks frightens them off. dont be so gullible lads you dont know him like i do..you never learn....where are these top managers???? even elvis was seen going into morgans hotel yesterday I am lucky i dont take a blind bit of notice of his spin ,,i use to but he has told so many lies that me and thousands of others will just wait and see who turns up....MAYBE,PERHAPS,or the end of next week as the saga drags on and we lose potential players who are making deals with other clubs..
Another classic post from Dai. Thanks Dai for giving us something to laugh at these last few weeks. Your posts are comedy classics. Thank goodness you don't really believe any of your own posts! Oh you do!?!?!?!????!!!!
get away from here i know im right just like the guys at the liberty knows they are right. its only mr gullible jack who are so dull that take his all his spin in.. I could not care who the manager is but dont bullshit the fans when you have been away and there are applicants waiting to see you.....Its know wonder the top managers turn us down I think he is back this weekend as he has not showed his face yet and if he is back he should hurry up and show a bit of respect to the applicants who are waiting or have said sod it by now..
Of course he is Superswan, and we are take your word as gospel as you come across as a rational above board person
You don't care who the manager is ? That's the problem Superswan the club does ! It's a very important position to fill so they are taking their time considering who is best to have. And mate there are no applicants waiting, we go to them or their agents do you have any idea at all how things are done in football ?
Liverpool took 2 weeks to get a manager. WBA have taken a few weeks. Chelsea have taken 3 weeks so far and still no sign of a new manager. Swans have taken just over a week, so completely normal. You are over-reacting. We'll get a manager soon enough. Stop being so negative. I remember you telling us how we'd be back in League Two by now unless Huw was replaced.
Back to the thread. I am happy with Laudrap, But a word of warning. Dont forget Sousa. Big names somrtimes come with bigger egos. I think he will be the right one, lets just hope his ego is small.
Dai - the gift of laughter that just keeps giving. I do think that the only downside to Laudrup will be his ego. Whereas Rodgers was a ruthlessly ambitious man he never came across as being precious. I think the new man will be more like Sousa in that regard as he's had bust-ups with chairmen before (though who's to say he was wrong?). If he's the right man for the job it maybe something the Board are going to have to confront at some stage. If I were them I'd tackle it head on at interview.
