Apart from producing and helping to develop Hull's best ever footballer, he was a lovely fella. Most my age who worked in and around Hull around 90's will have met Jeff in his work as an electrician, and by jove he loved a natter! He was a real advocate for local amateur sport too. I read recently he was now a neighbour of Nick's, glad they made up.
I can't find it now but I posted a very recent tv interview with Nick from his Kirkella home. It was based around 'Where are they now' from the 5-1 Germany game. He alluded to his family living in the neighbourhood, I took it to mean Jeff. I suspect Jeff would prefer it to be Bricknell Ave.
I played against him once. He was a dirty cheating bastard. Having said that, in the same game, I kicked John Kaye up in the air and he had to go off injured. Swings & roundabouts. R.I.P. Respect and regards. xx
I often watched him play at Anlaby Rec for Anlaby, often our game kicked off before theirs, and after our game finished, we would wander over and watch the end of their game. He was a good footballer and will be sadly missed. RIP Jeff
I think he probably meant his wife Mandy's family, they all live near each other. I remember Jeff had a newsagents off Bricknell Ave somewhere.
Jeff did live on Bricknell - opposite Kelvin Hall. Nick lives near me in West Ella, its various members of his wife Mandys' family who live close by.
I don’t think they did Jeff was very close to his daughters kids. They both played for city juniors.
I got to know him when he was playing for Anlaby and he was always good company and never failed to "let on" in later years when we sometimes met up at the five a sides at YPI. it was a pleasure to have known him and I'm sure he'll be sadly missed.
Sad news.. Where is Nick's son, Jeff's grandson, nowadays. I saw him playing for Man Utd youth, in something described as the Milk Cup. He looked a prospect. I think he went to Lester for a while, but not much since then.
Yeah I just Googled him. I've always thought it a good idea to just go play somewhere you'd like to live. Even for less money. He plays in midfield for Pheonix Rising in the USL.
