Am I the only one that hopes he is dropped to the bench tonight?

Don't rate him, not a good enough goal threat, doesn't do anything for the team, and never looks like scoring.

Just my opinion but, I say start Proz!

I think he's done well for holding the ball up, he has a great first touch, works hard but there's just the annoying little offsides and he always seems to get the ball way too deep to be fully effective. I do like Simpson and I think he'll get better as the Season goes along, but I would start Poschwitz tonight, get him some game time in an important game.

I would like to see Simpson given a rest as I thought he looked tired on Saturday but I definitely rate him as a striker

IMO, if Bruce was thinking that Simpson needed a rest it should have been against Burnley. Regardless of what happens tonight though, Steve Bruce has his 3 games in 8 days scenario coming up again for Forest saturday. Does he make changes regardless of tonights result as the last 2 occasions(Lesta & M'boro) we have handed the game over on a silver plate.

even after the ridiculous volley from 35 yards that landed in the car park in the last minute of the game? I cringe everytime he's about to shoot. League One striker at best for me.

He is a finisher, just not outside of the box! I think he should be rested tonight but I still expect to see him in the starting 11

I couldn't disagree with you more DJH. Simpson is the best proper striker we have. Give him the ball in the box and he'll score, which is simply not the case with McLean, Fryatt or even Aluko. Prossy we're all still unsure about, he looks a good finisher but didn't deliver on Saturday when he had the chances.

Simpson had a very difficult game on Saturday, he's a centre forward who relies on service and he didn't get any. I agree with you that the two long shots he had late on were just stupid, I imagine he was just frustrated about not getting a proper chance so he just went for it. He can't be blamed for not scoring though if he doesn't have a shot. As westhulltiger says, his touch and skill levels are very good and the way he holds it up. Could you see any of our other strikers bringing down that ball over his shoulder from Stockdale's kick like he did on Saturday? It was majestic! He's also very reliable in front of goal and if we get him in those positions he'll score. But against a team like Burnley where their defending means we can't get behind them at all what is he supposed to do?

We need Fryatt incredibly badly. He would be better for Aluko than the other 3 strikers.

For the record, i'd start Prozzy tonight and give him a chance. If he doesnt perform, bring on Simpson.

Simpson is a decent player, but he's not in the same class as Fryatt, not even close.

    Here we go again...

When Simpson scores a wonder-goal against Wolves or had a great performance against Bristol City everyone's ranting and raving about him. One bad game, "DROP HIM! GET RID!". Apparently Sone Aluko had a crap game on Saturday too, but I see nobody wanting to drop him because he's a golden boy now. Same with Koren, Quinn or Elmo. People quite frankly are looking to drop the lad because he's not one of the "stars."

Get a grip. He's actually done pretty well this season playing with someone who's about 5"4 playing against 6"0+ defenders. Ever thought Bruce's tactics may be wrong when we're playing against this type of defence? Start Prozzy up with Simpson, move Aluko into a wing position, drop Rosie (sorry but has to be done).

We all know Fryatt is a top, top class player but we haven't got him right now.

Sorry Beverley DJH, your opinion is daft in my view.

    Strongly disagree.

Simpson can finish, he holds the ball up extremely well and his touch and dribbling are very good too. We really couldn't ask for much more from him. As LMT says, Aluko was just as bad on Saturday, because neither of them had any service!

I think that you are right, but the reason a lot of people want to drop Simpson is not that he has one bad performance, but that it seems to take 10 chances for him to score 1 goal, and people want to see one of the other strikers, mainly Prozzy, have a decent run in the team to see what they would do over a few games. It isn't the same with Aluko. He is one of those players that can just create a goal or an assist out of absolutely nothing, even when playing bad.

Isn't that bollocks though? When has he had a lot of chances and missed them? I'm going to use the same old point I always use, but look back at his goals against Milwall and Peterborough and tell me who else in our team can shoot like that?

    No you are :bandit:

Fair play, I may have exaggerated. It probably takes about 5 or 6 for a goal.

I think it was the Ipswich game, where Simpson had a shed load of chances and didn't bag one and then Prossy came on and scored his 2. I like Simmo though. He's got a similar work rate to McLean but has more of an end-product goal wise. He also holds the ball up well and has brilliant ball control. I wouldn't say he's League 1 at all. Championship is his level.

On Saturday both OJ & Aluko we having to come deep to get the ball.
The comparisons with Fryatt need to be put to rest as Matty will not be back this season.
Aluko is only on a one year contract so he might not even play with Fryatt

He's a good player, that's clear to see, but I think the lad could benefit from a rest. He's starting to be offside more often, perhaps that's a sign that he's just lagging a bit from playing nearly every game. I think Proschwitz would benefit from a start tonight, we seemed more confident going forward knowing he was there, the team just need to play him the ball to feet, as opposed to through the air.
