Can see no reason why JRod would sign another contract now...be better to wait and keep his options open.

you can wait and keep options open or if you can get a reasonable chance of a move built into your contract while guaranteeing your next four or five years earnings (and a pay rise), you might be more inclined to sign the contract.

it's not a no-brainer considering how short his contract now is, but it's a consideration.

Of course, any demands Jay might make regarding signing or not-signing a new or extended contract, he now knows that it won't be all one way traffic. Saints could play extreme hard ball, hard ball or soft. Jay could either get in the swing of things [sorry, mind went a bit baseball there] and benefit from it, or say things like... I want to go elsewhere at the earliest opportunity. To which Saints, could respond... Of course you can Jay... for £30M. Now what would you like to do, Mr Unfit..?

    After all, he cost £7M

If your mind really did go baseball you would have said fastball, changeup or curveball. :)

If Senegal qualify for the ACON we could be without Mané for most of January into February. There is absolutely no chance we would sell a newly-recovered Jay Rod in January if that happened.

This is my concern when signing African players. Thankfully Vic plays for a rubbish footballing nation :)

Either way it could be construed as a gamble. We won't really know how well he's recovered from his injury for a while. Some players are never quite the same even if medically fit.

Incidentally, I have actually played and coached baseball (and in America). Now there's a sport that utilises some complicated statistics.

Yeah, most people in the UK think it's glorified Rounders but it's more complex than that.

When I lived in the States I got into baseball far more than the other odd sports they play. Basketball really is utter bollocks as a spectator event.

This person thinks it is the dullest sport I have ever seen live... and I was watching your team Tom. I do have to say that the nice young lady who kept asking if I wanted more beer or nuts, while I was sat in my seat was lovely. I felt obliged to keep saying yes, although she may have thought I was Dutch by the end of the game as I was saying "yesh" towards the end :)
