I know there's a Jay Rod thread and a Transfer Rumour thread - but kind of felt this deserved one: Suzanne Geldard of the Lancashire Telegraph has tweeted: "Jay Rodriguez expected to undergo a medical at Southampton today. Story in today's LT, online soon" Daily Echo have an article on this also: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sa...ref=twt&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Someone on Twitter then asked Suzanne if Saints had agreed terms yet or if that had to be done also: @Zoggers87: "@LT_Suzanne do you understand that he has agreed terms on a move?" @LT_Suzanne: "@Zoggers87 Hi Charlie, yes, it's expected today. Will post a link to full story on our website as soon as poss. Can't say more than that yet" So as the deal edges closer - what do you think of the deal? A smart move? A strong start to this summer's business? DTLW
The following article is now present on Lancashire Telegraph site: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.u...triker_Rodriguez_set_for_Southampton_medical/
Bring him in. Great signing. Already a good player but he has all the tools, and time on his side, to step up 2 or 3 more levels.
It's an interesting strategy we're using. Bid high and take out the competition, which could save us a fair bit of money on his wages. EG. Fulham offer him £10k more than we do so he demands the same from us. £10k per week translates as £500k per year and over the length of a contract, that's pretty serious money. We must have a lot of faithh in the lad.
Or was there? Nixon said the deadline was for Jay to make his decision. Oh well PTF - we can stop going on about this and just cross our fingers!
Personally I don't think there was a deadline at all. Papers need to write something to keep the viewer interested... IF we do sign him I think it'll be announced on Friday late morning
I hope if we sign this bloke the rest of our transfers don't turn out to be small fees for not up to scratch players. To blow the majority on this dude would be crazy.
Interesting post from a reader of the Lancashire Telegraph online: "Exactly - there is no doubt that Rodrigues will spend some time being shown over Saints state of the art facilities which are light years ahead of other clubs and the reason why they are a real threat to the so called giants of the Premier Leafue." Recognition, perhaps, from the wider football audience. After all, we believe and have known this for some time now.
the fact that we splashed out Billy Sharp recently even though Jay Rod was our number 1 target suggest that funds will be available to strengthen where necessary
We spent less than was forecasted last season and then there was the Chamberlain money on top of that, so there must be a fair budget. This will probably be the showcase signing, but I don't see us compromising on quality on other signings.
The facilities at the moment are very good, but they won't be well and truly state of the art until the work is finished.
