Tweet from MatthewLeGod (FM Saints Researche) Journalist: Jay Rodriguez and Danny Fox to #saintsfc ? Eddie Howe: "Yeah I heard on that. Its not ideal." Watch in full tinyurl.com/3hquerx Make of it what you want....to me it sounds like rumours are true and Eddie Howe might be resigned to loosing them. I really hope we pull this off, Jay Rodriguez is class...I don´t know much about Fox though.
Just watched it using my Saints Player log-in, that's the short of what he says, he says along the line of: "Yeah, I've heard that but know nothing more of it, it's not ideal." before shrugging and nodding at the reporter. So yeah, he looked sheepish and caught off-guard.
do we really need another LB though? I mean with Harding, Dickson, Mills & Reeves on the books, plus young Luke Shaw coming through
Perhaps it is a position Adkins is not totally happy with. I think Harding often gets caught with his eye off the ball, and allows his man to break into space, and maybe Adkins just isn't happy with the position. Speaking to a Burnley FIFA researcher who lives that way he says Fox is solid, agile, and has a wand of a left foot and is a bit of a set-piece specialist. Rodriguez is tall, but fast, and a goal poacher who works hard. A taller and faster Lee Barnard.
Well Howe has said a bid has been lodged but it is not ideal for the club. Fox is better than both Harding and Dickson I've been told by a Saints fan living in Burnley.
Yeah but what deal is ideal if your losing two of your best players?! I think theres still a long way to go if were going to complete this deal and doubt it will happen.
But I am sure if your club had immediately dismissed the bids out of hand you would deny it, or say no bid has been accepted. Rather than now give the press something to get their teeth into. If you see it Howe does look caught out.
Hopefully we can get Jay Rod, he's quality and young with loads of potential. Danny Fox is probably better than out current LB options so fair enough. Won't believe it till it's on the OS but sounds promising.
Howe was answering a question. Was it ideal to have this speculation on match day. Answer: no, it's not ideal. So wasn't actually commenting on a deal but actually the fact of speculation. True he didn't deny it out of hand, but I think managers have learnt not to do that. Rarely, does Nigel comment outright on rumours..always diverts the question.
We are quite thin at left-back - Harding is the only realistic option at the moment. Mills has a future elsewhere and Dickson has had a terrible pre-season, looks a shadow of his former self and will be getting nowhere near the first team at the moment. Danny Fox would be an ideal signing - Burnley will be annoyed, we keep taking their players!
Believe it when I see it. Howe's response to me doesn't validate these rumours at all. Both good players, but i'll wait for an offical annoucement before getting excited.
I think we need to sign atleast a centre-back in this week, but Martin did look good and i think he could move infront of Jaidi and Seaborne for back-up. It's vital that we sign a left-back and a striker but if we do sign these players then that would defiantly add more quality to our squad and it will just take competition for places to a whole new level!
But think of the quality options we'd have in defence! One of the best in the league i think if it happens.
