Poor Jay after all the hard work. The only good thing is that it isn't the knee again....that could have been far more serious after 2 ops.
Hard luck for him but it shouldn't hurt Saints much at all. The only good thing is that he won't be going anywhere anytime in the near future.
I assumed that it wasn't all rosy as it's all been a bit too quiet on the Jay front. Bad news. Poor Jay.
He's still young and very determined. Such a shame but he will be back and better than ever hopefully.
It's not uncommon for a player to get a second injury after a long lay off, but is usually a muscular problem rather than something requiring surgery.
Sorry to hear about Jays latest injury. Trouble is he is not going to be anywhere near as sharp as he was before his initial injury. After such a total layoff he will be lucky to get back into the first team in my view, for quite a while at least, if ever. So do you think they may tiptoe into the market in January now?
Gutted for the lad and for us who will miss him....a really good opportunity for Ryan Seagar though and let's all hope he gets the opportunity and takes it with both hands/feet
This may well be the end for Rodriguez. I don't think we'll ever see him back to his best. And dare I say it I don't think we'll ever see him back near his best either. I hope I'm proved wrong. The had in 2013/14 was so wrongly under-rated by Saints fans. 15 goals in a season without a penalty from the wing is an incredible return. When you factor in he was covering more ground than anyone else in the league it's an even more remarkable return. Rodriguez from 2013/14 in the current side would make us top four material. It is a real shame he got such a bad injury.
Oh I think it's a little premature to be making assumptions like this. Besides, he's still a relative youngster with plenty more years left to regain his former form. Granted it's another setback, but he has the best facilities and expertise. He has the will of himself and everyone else with him. The odds are he'll be fine. It's not even determined that he will have surgery, in any case. Personally, I'm not 100% sure what is supposed to be the matter. We know his knee is fine. First I heard recently, according to Koeman, was that his feet hurt. Now there are reports it's an ankle injury. Whether that is the result of a training/exercise incident, or as an indirect result of the injured knee problem, is something we don't know. Thing is, we actually know very little. I'm sure that's one reason for the concern you have.
I'd have to disagree with that, the odds do not suggest he will be fine at all if anything all evidence points to him never reaching that level again, I can't think of a single player who relies on pace so much who has made a full recovery from this injury. I reckon he'll just be injury prone for most of his career now, and I'm not basing it on just this as I said in the Summer I wasn't expecting much from him at all. Such a shame and feel sorry him. I hope I'm wrong. Really need to dip into the market in January imo. We're a long term injury to Mane or Pelle to dropping about 6/7 places down the league.
So sad for Jay. He had (and hopefully still does) a big future ahead of him. This is a tough set back, although I do feel it is a little early for the doom mongers to be writing him off. They may be correct, but let's give the lad the time and all hope he recovers fully and gets back playing top football. I backed Jay from the very start. I remember the NegHeads bashing him on this forum in that first season. It was clear he was a talent and with his attitude and work rate he proved the doubters wrong and as Tintin mentioned earlier, that season of 15 goals was a phenomenal return from a wide player. It wasn't just the goals either that season, he was a beast and a pain in the arse to opposition defenders.
I can't disagree about the pace, however if we go back to that first season, I was saying that he has the attributes to play down the middle and if he recovers, I still stand by that. He can still be a threat even if his blistering pace slows down quite a bit. Alan Shearer recovered from more than one bad injury and although I am not saying Jay is as good as Shearer (or not, for that matter), I am saying that if he recovers, he can still be one hell of a player down the middle. He could end up being our Gary Shaw. I just wish him a full and timely recovery.
Sorry flt but i'm not a 'doom monger' as you put it. Purely a realist. as I asked TSS how many players who rely on pace have come back from his sort of injury? I can't think of one of the top of my head. It is very sad and I am truly gutted (for him as well, not just us) but I just don't see him ever being the player he looked like he could of been in that season. As Tintin says, 15 league goals from open play playing out wide is no mean feat.
Haha replied to each other at the same time, yeah I do think he has those attributes to play down the middle but for me his finishing isn't composed enough. I don't like the Shearer comparison for this reason, that guy was a natural born finisher, knew where the net was without looking and arguably the best out and out striker the PL has seen, I don't see Jays finishing improving so far to that point unfortunately. Obviously agree about wishing him a full and timely recovery. Who's Gary Shaw though? (Young buck alert!!)
