The wages he would want is a stumbbling block, so would be surprised to see him back unless he comes off the reported 14k his agent has asked.
Seems he is being touted up and down the country, so some premier side will come in for him soon I would think, and thats what he really wants.

Playing the devils advocate a moment. How welcome would Jay be?
His performances dropped off after his England appearance.
He falls over when anyone goes near him.
Picks up silly yellow cards when confronting the ref with no apparent need.
He may or may not have been hampered by a recurring injury.
He was one of the lads out on the town before the Boro game.
He is now a free agent and money appears to be his motive rather than a premiership side.

When he's confident and fully fit a great player to have in the team but he does go missing too many times when needed.

    Wouldn't want him back I don't think...as per fishy's comments...
If he had a switch for the manager to choose between ego or form, then he'd have possibly made the difference last season, but he doesn't so went missing a lot 2nd half of the campaign!

I was a big fan but he let us down. Would I have him back? yes but on our terms so can't see it.

    Honestly wouldn't want him back.

Not sour grapes on my part that he's touting his wares elsewhere - just think that Malky needs to stamp his mark on this NEW side.

Jay is talented and extremely skilfull on the ball, but he has too many flaws in his game that have always held him back and they haven't gone away.

I'd be cautious about having Betty back. He was unplayable early last season and who knows, maybe, under a new man, he could find that form again. Having said that, I don't think MM will want him. This is a clean slate, let's not give him one that's smudged with half committed players like Bothroyd.

We've played with 10 men sometimes because of him, when he gives no effort it really is no effort.
Great when he plays, liability when he doesn't bother, can cost us games as well as win them.
    Verdict=No return.

Agree Glam, if what you read about MM is true, Jay doesn't have the work ethic he'd want. Expect a few more grafters in the team this year. Fair play to DJ, he got the best out of Jay. I can see him slipping into his old ways and being a bit part player somewhere.

When he was good he was very. very good, when he was bad he was awful,,,,,,,,,,,,,the hallmark of MM's Watford sides was working hard for one another, they overcame some of their shortcomings skill wise by working their socks off for one another, MM is said to be a disciniplarian in the Ferguson mould, would he want an undoubtedly talrnted prima donna like Jay at the club, or would he rather bring in a 100% commited pro, who will not go missing 50% of the time? Don't get me wrong I was a Bothroyd fan, but sometimes IMO we relied on him too much and he didn't deliver.

He has been linked with everyone from West Ham to QPR and I even heard Liverpool are interested in him! Nothing official yet though I don't think.

**** him, he left, personally I hope he trips over his massive ego and disappears up his own arsehole, besides which i think Malky has more 'committed' players in mind

Be just our luck to come up against Jay and Kevin Nolan first game of the season, when they still have something to prove <doh>

Just offer him a years contract with no increase. If he doesn't like it tough.

Crikey, I have been gone too long, amazing reaction, pretty similiar from all. I felt that he was the classiest player since Barry Hole to grace the club....what do I know?
Also who is Dettol....a new signing?:cheesy:
