Jason will be on the above show tonight. The line up is: Jason Puncheon, Paul Merson, Phil Daniels. Usual format is to have a chat with a guest and then they have to draw up a team of the best players they have played with. I have set a reminder so will try and feedback if you don't get to watch it yourself. DTLW
They just brought Jason and Merse out. To describe Merse, Fenners went with "he is the Mauricio Pochettino, to my Jesus Perez!"
Jason on his Twitter rant: "I lost my head as a professional, I shouldn't have done it. However, it got me where I am now. I knew as soon as I'd sent it I'd be punished. But the Chairman called me in and had me back in first team training. The penny had to drop, my mentality has now changed."
Jason on Pochettino: "The manager has installed more belief, and a high pressing game which has worked really well for us. He's really big on his mentality on the training pitch. His English is.... good. It's better than what we thought. If he needs to get something across quickly he will use his interpreter but he's generally quite good. I wouldn't say I've seen Mauricio properly lose it, but I think it's his culture to be the way he is. He knows some of those words (swear words), just the obvious. He joins in with training, if you can call it that." He also mentioned Pochettino's respected playing career.
Jay Rodriguez is in the 'Team of the Week', alongside Rooney and Weimann in a front three after last weekend's performances.
Jason was asked which of his team-mates would be most capable of scoring straight from a corner, he said Lallana and Schneiderlin.
Jason Puncheon's all-time XI: (only allowed to select those you have played alongside) GK: Graham Stack - I've known him a long time. Good goakeeper. DEF: Alan Dunne - personifies Millwall. DEF: Ben Chorley - great leader, vocal. DEF: Luke Shaw - Great young player, will play for England several times, he is 17 and built like a man. MID: Alex Chamberlain - Carries the ball, good passer, creative. He's only 18 and has a lot more to come. MID: Nicky Bailey - Very gifted, good in the air, good passer, a fighter. MID: Lionel Morgan - Played together at Wimbledon aged 17, got bad injuries and you probably won't have heard of him. Absolute class. MID: Adam Lallana - Mr Southampton. We all look at him as the big star. He will be huge for us next year. ATT: DJ Campbell - We played together at Blackpool, he was very good. ATT: David Connolly - Just watch and learn from him. His touch and finishing is great. He used to teach me to shoot. ATT: Rickie Lambert - People always say "old-fashioned". He is not that. He has done really well. He deserves to play for England.
I think Lala just needs a little confidence. He gets in the right positions but his finsihing let's him down. It'll come, though, and when it does, he'll get a hatful.
Merson said "if Lambert had pace he'd be in the England team all day long". Also said "I can't see Luke Shaw there next year, he'll get 50+ England caps". Jason told him to "slow down there".
Jason on going to the loo: "To be honest, I just needed to go. I went at half-time, and got back on the pitch and was like I'm going to go on the pitch, I'm going to need to go now." He cracked up laughing when they asked the question about it and showed him the footage.
Jason's quickfire manager questions: Q: Which manager has had the biggest influence on your career? A: Paul Fairclough/Ian Holloway - Paul got me back into football when I fell out of it, and Ian showed me the lights of the Premier League Q: Best tactician? A: I'd say Pochettino. In the short time so far, he is very, very tactical. Q: Worst temper? A: Probably Paul Ince. I remember at Milton Keynes, we played at home in the FA Cup and the flipchart went flying. Lets put it that way. Q: Most enjoyable training sessions? A: Di Matteo, for the footballing stuff he did. Q: Best manager that joined in with training? A: Paul Ince. We'd do volleying on a Friday and his left foot was just unbelievable. Q: And the worst? A: I've seen Warnock try and kick a ball before. Q: Best team-talk you've ever heard? A: It'd have to be Pochettino when we played Man City this season, the buzz in the changing room after he finished was unreal. Q: Worst thing about managers? A: Lying. When you're out of the team and ask what's going on. It's best just to be honest.
Interesting that Mauricio gave the best team talk...English must be pretty good...or the interpreter is a hell of an orator
