Sunderland boss David Moyes is keen to take Jason Denayer from Manchester City on loan for the season, according to reports from DH.

The seven-cap Belgium international, who was a part of the Red Devils’ EURO 2016 set-up, has spent the last two seasons away from the Etihad Stadium, playing for Celtic and Galatasaray in the process.

Denayer shone in both Scotland and Turkey, and after being brought back to Manchester he surely expected some game time under Pep Guardiola.

Granted, a niggling injury has held him back in recent weeks, but reports from DH claim that, with his future somewhat uncertain, interest in his signature has sparked up.

It’s understood that Sunderland boss Moyes is keen on the 21-year-old centre-back, despite the Scot having already snapped up the likes of Papy Djilobodji, Donald Love and Paddy McNair to strengthen his rearguard since replacing Sam Allardyce as the Black Cats’ chief.

The Stadium of Light gaffer is thought to be open to a loan deal, which may appeal to Pep Guardiola, who is believed to rate Denayer.

As the above highlights video (set to the obligatory hyped up euro pop backing track) illustrates, Denayer is a physically imposing defender with good technical skills. The Belgian likes to step out from the backline with the ball at his feet to start attacks, which, although risky, is the sort of progressive football Guardiola craves.

However, the Spaniard may be reluctant to take a risk on the youngster in his first season at Man City, while Sunderland offers the platform for Denayer to play regular football, depending on Lamine Kone’s future, and adjust to the unique challenges of the Premier League.

Hmmmm, could this mean that if we do bring in a decent CB on loan, we will sell Kone after all, or am I putting two and two together and making five?

If we can replace Kone I think he will go. Dont see Everton looking elsewhere for a centre back.

That's what I thought. I thought Koeman would have gone back to Southampton for Van Dijk, but he hasn't.

I think Kone will play tomorrow if he is fit.
