Sunderland are in talks with Manchester United over a loan move for forward Adnan Januzaj. The Black Cats are on the verge of sealing deals for midfield pair Leroy Fer and Yann M’Vila, and it is understood that they are also hoping to secure a third loan by pulling off a transfer coup for Januzaj. There have been rumours about Sunderland’s possible interest in Januzaj throughout the summer, with Everton also keeping a close eye on the situation after seeing a loan approach in the January transfer window rejected by Man United. But the Echo understands that Sunderland have held productive discussions with United over Januzaj and they are hoping to seal a season-long switch which would provide a major boost to their attacking ranks. Januzaj started just seven Premier League outings for United last season after making a huge impression in his breakthrough season under David Moyes 12 months earlier. But United boss Louis van Gaal indicated last month that he had been impressed by Januzaj during their pre-season campaign and would use the 20-year-old in a central striker role this season. However, United are still in the market for further attacking reinforcements – principally Barcelona’s Pedro – while van Gaal and fellow Dutchman Dick Advocaat have known each other for decades. Sunderland can also boast a successful record in developing youngsters from the Premier League’s heavyweights during loan spells. Danny Welbeck, Jonny Evans and Danny Rose have all established themselves at their parent clubs after stints with Sunderland. Signing Januzaj would represent a major boost to Sunderland’s attack, which was the second worst in the Premier League last season, albeit the Black Cats have subsequently spent £8million on winger Jeremain Lens. Sunderland were offered – and rejected – the chance to sign Rudy Gestede, before the Frenchman joined Aston Villa from Blackburn in a £6m deal. But after Connor Wickham joined Crystal Palace in a £9m move earlier this week, Sunderland have moved fast to bring in reinforcements. Fer should offer a goal threat from midfield too, with the Dutch international’s season-long loan switch from QPR likely to be confirmed today. The 25-year-old – cousin of Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt – was in the North East yesterday to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical after the Black Cats appear to have beaten off competition from the likes of PSV and West Ham. Fer will pen a straightforward loan deal, without a permanent clause built in, with QPR eager to remove the £8m midfielder from the wage bill. Fer is one of two midfielders that Sunderland are confident of landing before the start of the season this weekend, with the Black Cats still working towards finalising a deal for M’Vila. French international M’Vila will join on a season-long loan from Russian club Ruben Kazan, potentially with a view to a longer-team deal.
Three players on loan then. Let's hope we have some kind of arrangement to buy at the end of the loan.
I guess there must be something in this for the Echo to be reporting it - it's not like it's the Mirror/Star (name your tabloid). Be nice if we bought a quality striker but loan deals have done us alright in the past. Any noise out of Manchester Juan?
Not bothered if we do or don;t as long as they do the business! Loans are used for a reason - to fill a gap at a much cheaper price. If we get Fer, M'Vila and Januzaj on loan that will be pretty good business all in all - Man Untied (IMO) will not sell Januzaj - they need him to get game time and improve as he looks like he has all the ability in the world at times! It is also a no risk arrangement as, if they are not doing a job, they go back at the end of the loan! M'Vila carries a risk and Fer is apparently on big money at QPR so loans for those are a decent idea! @Typical_Juan you heard anything your end on the Adnan front?
Mvilla is a loan with view to buy, I presume Fer will be happy to join us if QPR miss out on promotion maybe even if they do as long as we have a good season. Januzaj will want to stay at Man U if possible, however if he gets too far down the pecking order at Man U, and we finish is a strong position this season we might be able to make it a permanent move imo. In any case, a great bit of business by the club if pulled off. I prefer to get a striker on loan if we cant get our primary targets in, then splash the cash in Jan / next summer if our main targets become available and we can lure them here (again, probably depending on our league position at the end)
M'Vila is being reported as a 1 yr loan, with a right to make it permanent. Sounds right. Fer is a straight 1 year loan - I hope we have rights of first refusal on this one - it is the one I'd like to be permanent. If QPR don't get promoted it improves our chances of keeping him, esp. if he is enjoying his footie here. Januzaj is a simple loan. No way we could expect to get him on a permanent deal, so no point griping about it. Pace and competition for places in the wider positions up front. It's a pretty ****ing good squad if these three come in, and there should be no excuses for the strikers in terms of service. Pants/Vito Jones/Matthews Kaboul/Coates/Brown/JOS/Beadling Paddy/?? Catts/M'Vila/Rodders/Larsson/Fer/Gomez AJ/Lens/Giacc/Januzaj/Watmore Fletch/Graham/Defoe/?? Does Watmore count as U-21 still or full squad member? Either way we have a 22/23 man squad here, which means we still have space a new forward and defensive (LB) reinforcement. We still have cash to spend inc. enough, hopefully, to keep back for the Jan window.. However, we must need to shift out the squad players we don't need in Buckley, Bridcutt, Chavrias, Roberge first. I've probably got something wrong here, but that's my reading of it.....
United fan here in peace, i wouldn't mind seeing Januzaj going out on loan, especially to a club like yourselves, i think he'd become one of your best players should he join you.
Thanks for the input but it's a bit arrogant saying he'd be out BEST player. Yes he'd be one of our best for that position, but I wouldn't pick him over Lens.
Loans again LOL never ****ing learn. They do well then **** off again so we have to rebuild all the ****ing time. Sunderland must be top of the league for signing players on loans.
Not really fella - we're the same as most others! No loanee's have left holes in the squad this time - Coates, Alvares and Vergini - 2 signed and 1 is trying to be forced through as we have an agreement of sorts to sign him! They only leave a hole if the manager doesn;t have a contingency (Bruce certainly didn;t!) and I reckon the management team will have a contingency in place for this.
Not heard anything from my end about Januzaj moving, but like I've said for months, this move just makes sense. He needs games more than any player in our squad but unfortunately, he's a bit too raw to displace our disciplined players. It works well for you for a season, he will be brilliant trust me and it works well for us. There'd be no chance of a permanent deal here though, the kid is one of the best youngsters in the world in my opinion and will be in that next level of £40m+ type players once he's a bit more refined. You lot have seen first hand what he's capable of anyway.
Got to admit I like the look of that side! Is Janujaz an out and out striker though? Got to admit that a line up like that is mouthwatering but and a big but, is Janujaz an out and out goal scorer? Not much of an opportunity at Man U but seemed more of a wider player from what I,ve seen
Would be a great signing, just what we need. Lets face it we could sign a player like this and in 12 months they might want to leave to go to a bigger club so we would only get them for 1 year anyway. Its up to us to do well, if we finish much higher up the league good players will want to stay especially if they are playing every week.
I thought the lad played out wide? Or was he playing out of position there? Can't say I'm that impressed to be honest.
I love Januzaj mate, always have done and will be delighted if we manage to sign him. I don't think he will be the major world class player I thought he would be though, when I look at players like Hazard developing, I just think, naaa...
No you're right mate, he's a wide player. Moyes put him there and he played well. LVG has a reputation for changing position of players and getting the best out of them, he's probably seen something in him that he wants to experiment with. Either way, LVG can't force DA to play him as a striker. What he possesses though is the ability to walk past a man with ease, are you not sick of watching Adam "check back" Johnson struggle to provide quality service?
Well he probably won't be as good as Hazard, but he'll be better than the likes of Quadrado and Willian. Look how much those two clowns cost.
He needs games with the Euros coming up next year if he wants to get into a very strong Belgium squad. Him coming to us is a no brainer for all concerned.
