Almost time for the January Sales to start, so let's start speculating like crazy seeing as for once we face the promise of spending rather than selling. We know McD wants goals, pace and width, and with Dexter out of the picture now it's all up in the air again for a striker ... on the outgoing front we surely must be looking at trying to offload the likes of Green, Norris, Drury and Varney, and possibly White on loan ... McCormack must be on shopping lists for sure, but really can't see us selling him with his excellent form so far ... right, here goes my thoughts:

Nahki Wells (Bradford) - this kid can play, has pace and knows where the goal is, would be a super addition and long term prospect as well, can see him fitting in and frightening the Championship

Chris Burke (Birmingham) - he is starting to perform again, and has helped Brum settle into a six match unbeaten run, they are rumoured to be willing to listen to offers for ALL their players as they are flat broke and their owner's assets are still frozen, may be a bargain to be had

Rowe (Posh) - still producing the goods, out of contract soon, surely a deal can be done

I have a few others in mind, but will leave it there for now and pass it over to y'all ... who are you thinking of in January? Another defender? Keeper maybe? Let's get debating and see if we can help McD make the right signings!!

So long as we don't get a silly money bid from the bottom of the PL for Ross, Sam, or Mowatt, all will be well.

352 as a formation works and Smith is now starting to knock in the goals. Whilst a striker capable of pushing him for a starting spot would be a good addition, I'd actually like to see Hunt given the opportunity to show what he can do in this canged formation once he's fit. He wasn't fit at the start of the season and the diamond formation clearly benefitted no one. Given all of this, unless the right player came along at the right price, I wouldn't be too surprised to see us have no new incomings in this TW.

On outgoings, a good opportunity to clear the decks. Green, Norris, Drury and Varney all possible departures.

I would really like us to target wells. I've said it since the end of last season, think he will be a great player and someone that clearly has the potential to play in the PL.

Think we could do with a keeper but maybe wait till the summer for that. If we can get any added width that'd be a bonus, my choice would be Mackay-Stevens

I used to rate Maynard, but he has only scored 3 goals in the 24 games he's played for West Ham/Cardiff - West Ham paid £4M for him then sold him to Cardiff for £2.75M - very bad return for so much money!!

I agree, I wouldn't go for him, he has dropped off massively

Aide my take on Maynard injury prone worth a gamble if freebie otherwise not worth the risk .Wells a big leap up I would offer 500k plus add ones depending on how well he does could be another King McCole who was excellent for me

To be fair to Maynard, he's had horrific luck with injuries recently and I daresay the majority of those 24 games have been from the bench - but a return of 1 in 8 when you cost £6.75m is dire either way.

Wells would be a fantastic signing I think, not sure how realistic it is though. Anyone know how long he has left on his contract?

Burke would be a good option out wide, although if we could find someone younger that'd be great. As for Rowe, he's still injured at the moment and I have a feeling he's not back until end of January, so I'm not sure he'd even pass a medical. I'd definitely take him if he is fit though, he'd give us width and pace and can play anywhere down the left flank <ok>

I think if we do anything in the window we need to offload the likes of Green, Varney et al. However if we bring anyone else in I think it needs to be under a different criteria from what we've done in the past. It makes no sense to spend on someone who will not make it in the prem, which then means we are stuck with them until we can sell them. We need good prospects or someone with pedigree who will still be here in a year or 2. max Gradel if fit would fit the bill and be a forward looking signing. Chris Burke also, but would Tommy Rowe make it?

I see a different feeling/mood at the club and I hope the players we get will be a good fit for this season and in future. No more dead wood please or old journeymen coming for a final wage

Think we'll struggle to offload Green and Varney in January, they're out of contract at the end of the season, who's going to go in for them? Probably just going to run down their contracts.

One player not coming back is Jonny Howson who has today signed a 4.5 year extension. Well done Jonny that should make you a fortune and keep the wolf from the door. Funny how the chairman can allow that deal if the manager is under pressure? this probably means that either the chairman knows Jonny's a great player for the club, or the mamaner isn't under pressure even though he spent a fortune on strikers and is only now playing Hooper who is now scoring. He wasted money on a few more though like Becchio and has watched his team get turned over loads this season.

Would also be very surprised Kiwi to read that either Green or Varney were offerred extensions. Green could do a job for us. But with Pugh now featuring regularly and Brown in all honesty likely to get another year's extension, I really don't see the point of keeping Green or Varney

I'd keep Green until the end of his contract if I'm honest, he's not that bad a player. As for Varney, the sooner he leaves the better really. Pugh's always been handy, but he wasn't defensively sound enough to play LB and not creative enough to play CM. LWB seems to be a good position for him though

A couple of weeks ago I heard a rumour and thought it was shyte. Today I read something on NewsNow and the players name was again mentioned. Wilfred Saha the new Man Utd player who apparently Moyes wants to send out on laon until the end of the season. He wants to see how he will progress by the summer if he's getting regular football. He did the business in this league last season and it may be worth a punt at the bookies?

Moyes and our club have a decent relationship as we had Ross Berkley last year and look at him now, and we also did the deal to sell Everton Luke Garbutt who's now been sent out on loan as the last bit of his education. Could happen, couldn't it?

We won't get Zaha on loan, no chance. Proven in this division already, he'll go on loan to a Premiership side.

Agreed. He'll probably go back to Palace on loan.

Zaha would be amazing, but can't see Scum sending him to us ... Colin fcuked off Moyes anyway by not playing Barkley ... agree that signings now have to be to progress longer term ... expect Varney, Green, Norris, Brown, Pugh and Diouf to be gone come end of season ... is White still an option for Leeds?

I don't expect Brown to get an extension. I'd be disappointed if he did

Agreed. He's a handy squad player this year, but at 36/37 we have to ask ourselves is he really worth another year? I don't doubt the fact he keeps himself in great condition, but I'd much prefer us to bring in a young midfielder or one at his peak, not extend the contract of a 36 year old.

In my heart I want to say White could still be an option because he's a home-grown player and he has had the occasional good performance. But in reality, I really don't think he's good enough. We still don't know his best position, and it seems the only thing he really excels at is running fast <doh>
