This one is for everyone Arsene Wenger said the other day that the January transfer window should either be scrapped or changed so that you can only sign a maximum of 2 players. Newcastle signed 6 players, QPR signed 6 and in the championship in the past week Crystal Palace have tried to sign anyone they can with money they have recieved for a player that isnt leaving until the summer. Wenger said its unfair for teams who have played Newcastle twice already as now they are a completely different team. I was just wondering what other thought, I can understand why Wenger is going with the 2 players thing and actually I agree with it. Albeit its alright for us to say that with everything looking rosy and with us not needing to sign many players. Chris Wood has came in and made a massive impact. When we was at the bottom Sven brought in alot of players in the January transfer window so it does favour the bottom teams just as much as the top teams at times. So do you agree with only be allowed to sign 2 players? Or should they scrap it all together or just leave it how it is?
Leave it how it is, extending it would do nothing, as all the transfers will still be done last minute. Removing it completely would mean that any player that has a few good form games would be bought by a bigger club straight away. E.g. Fellaini would have moved to a top 4 side in September/October. It would give no stability to any player.
No what Wenger meant was you can only buy players in the summer, and then that is you squad for the season
Thats a pretty stupid statement since they signed someone in this window, having no transfer window at all wouldn't really work, it would mean that we wouldn't have Chris Wood! The transfer window can give teams that little something extra and make the second half of the season interesting, QPR for example, may still go down, but it has made the relegation zone more interesting.
I like the idea of maximum two players only in Jan, although would possibly put the already inflated prices up even more. Transferring managers only in the summer and Jan should also be introduced. Again Abramovic could only make two manager transfers in Jan ;-)
I would prefer to see something come in to protect managers instead. Maybe a club should be force to stick with a manager all season or only be able to change managers in Jan. It was bad enough when we had clubs having three managers in one season, but now some managers are having three clubs in one season! Although I didn't particularly rate Megson, I think if he hadn't been able to walk out on us the way he did we may have survived that season. Consistency is so important and many Chairmen don't seem to understand this. On the otherhand, we'd also have been forced to see if Sousa was capable of clearing up his own mess, or, if forced to act a bit more responsibly, maybe Mandaric would never have got rid of Nige in the first place (sorry Hull fans, I mean allowed him to leave). It seems the transfer window is there to limit managers buying and selling like crazy, but there's nothing to limit maverick Chairmen hiring and firing whenever they feel like it, some even sack managers when they're doing OK (Forest for example)!
I think soon managers are going to want it put in their contracts that they cant be sacked for 12 months or something unless its gross misconduct
Yeah, obviously there will be extenuating circumstances in which a board would be enable to sack a manager, but this should be the exception to the rule.
It's not really, he's saying the rules need changing. Until they are he's not going to handicap himself compared to other clubs by refusing to do any deals when his rivals are.
