From West London Sport """""" 07/12/2012 by David McIntyre Manager Harry Redknapp expects QPR to spend when the transfer window opens next month. Signing at least one centre-back has long been one of Rangersâ top priorities, with the club intending to try again for Michael Dawson and Chris Samba. Dawson, who played under Redknapp at Tottenham, opted to stay at Spurs rather than move to Loftus Road in the summer. Redknappâs predecessor Mark Hughes was hopeful of persuading Dawson to make the switch in January and was also planning another approach for Samba. Congo defender Samba, 28, played under Hughes at Blackburn, while Redknapp expressed an interest in signing him while in charge at Spurs. After being pursued by Hughes, Samba opted to join Anzhi Makhachkala but is unsettled in Russia and believed to be open to the idea of a return to England. Redknapp recently indicated he would not spend in the transfer market if his team are still adrift at the bottom, saying it could increase the financial burden on the club if they go down to the Championship. But Redknapp, who is next week due to meet Râs chairman Tony Fernandes for the first time since he was Tottenham manager, said: âIâm positive we will be in a position where we can give it a good go. âAll I said was there was no point spending if weâre cut adrift, but letâs hope thatâs not the situation. âIf we are in there the owners will look at it. Itâs a case of knowing whoâs around and who could do a job for you """"""
Many of Hughes' signings looked like decent signings. Better chance of getting them to perform under Harry.
The fact remains we have an unbalanced weak squad. We will bring someone in if only on loans because we cannot go through to the end of the season with only the defenders we have, one forward who is fit and up for it and one who is fit and isn't. Don't cae how many midfielders we have. They cannot do all that is asked of them.r
