This is something that's been bugging me so hopefully somebody can shed some light. I've heard quite a lot recently that Assem Allem will offer up transfer money in January depending on where we are in the table... How does this make any sense? We're a big investment of his, surely the lower we are the more he would pump into the club in order to strengthen as required? I think he'll make a couple of million available (maximum) regardless to be honest. I might have the wrong figure there but I don't think table position will affect the amount he offers for transfers... especially with how tight that table is likely to be when the window opens. We were right near the bottom this time last season and look where we finished. There's no reason we couldn't be 14-16th come January and then finish in the top 4 (not saying it'll happen) Table position in January shouldn't necessarily alter your spending ambitions.
You tend to get better value in the summer window than the January one. Why if we we're in midtable obscurity not looking like getting promoted or relegated would you choose to spend the cash in January when you can just wait? If however we're in and around the playoffs it's worth putting the money in then to push us over the edge.
I think Nick will probably be given a couple of million regardless of our league position, we need to strengthen and Assem will want to prove he's backing Barmby.
Assuming he's still the one in charge. Of course I should have pointed out in my last post that the league position dependent transfer funds comments have been going round since before the manager change, any new manager is going to expect to be able to sign players in their first transfer window so that does change things a bit.
i also suspect that Papa Allam will want to show the Lady Boys a thing or 2 that he is not a penny pincher. its gonna be interesting.
If NB is given brass to spend, then as far as I am concerned a goal keeperis a top priority. Its clear that Basso has an injury problem and the other lad just isnt consistant enough. I think that this has caused the defence to start leaking goals as they are unsure of gulusci (or what ever his name is) We were water tight with Basso although he was prone to the occasional blip. Get down to Arsenal and make a bid for Mannone.
I would hope Allam would kindly donate 5 million in the January Window - it is a brilliant cause!!!!!
What ****ing rubbish - Gulasci caused the defence to leak gioals in the first 75 minutes against Burnley - No; and the final 15mins - of course it was his fault, it is so well documented - NOT Derby - "Davies was denied a potentially game-changing goal by a fine save from Tigers goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, who tipped the midfielder's curling effort around the post." (BBC Report) we won 0-2, a clean sheet, but of course, he must have been ****e - NOT Barnsley - "Craig Davies broke the deadlock with a close-range finish before Andy Gray capitalised on a mistake from Adriano Basso to double Barnsley's lead." - was Gulacsi wearing a Basso mask - I suppose it was Gulasci who took the penanlty and ****ed that up as well? Perfect he is not (who is in the team) but improving he is; just like the rest of them. Yes we can get better if we have the bucks when we fill the real problem positions, but in the meantime why not give him some credit.
What a pathetic comparison. You've taken a quote from one good save that Gulasci's made and compared it to one mistake that Basso made. Compare it as a whole - Basso has kept several clean sheets and has had a blip or two - Gulasci has had one clean sheet, been at fault for three goals against Leeds and has generally shown us that he struggles to catch easy balls and make simple saves. Have you seen the second Southampton goal by the way? I'd almost, ALMOST rather have Tony Warner in goal. Either that or myself. No one is claiming that Basso is Casillas but in comparison he pretty much looks like him. Gulasci is far too error prone even for League 1 IMO, so he certainly shouldn't be starting for us. You can't just highlight one good save and make out that that makes up for the dozens of mistakes. Mannone in, Gulasci out please.
Yes i have seen the second goal and Gulasci was not at fault. Same as against Burnley our two central defenders were poor for those goals but no one will say a word cos its Chester who hasnt dealt well with high balls.
Watching them again I find Gulasci at fault for both. Not to the extent where he made a terrible error, just that someone else would have done much, much better. He supposedly made a 'magnificent' initial save for the first goal.. all I see if a very weak shot head almost straight to him, and he just parries it straight back out.. Am I all alone on these thoughts?
I think Papa will make money available to Nick in this window. NB seemed to be his personal choice and it's probable he will want to back that as far as he dare. NB knows the strengths and weaknesses of this squad and he knows this league inside out. It's going to be a very interesting couple of months.
either way basso or gulasci, that goalkeeping situation needs resolving, Basso's not the greatest we need better and gulasci seems too fragile.
If you think our keeper should be taking balls whipped in along the 6 yard line, then obviously by that reckoning David Beckham woudnt have had much of a career.
I don't think he should've taken the cross. He shouldn't have tried to. He made a pathetic dive towards the ball, got nowhere near it, easy goal. He should have waited a couple of seconds before diving to try and save the shot instead. If he'd not saved it then I wouldn't complain.. it's just the fact that he made an extremely poor attempt that irritated me.
IMO, The biggest issue between Gulacsi and the back 4 is communication or a lack of it. At Forest for example and sat just behind the goal it was so evident that Basso is very very vocal. I dont think Gulacsi is at all. Even at Derby PG DID not know weather to stick or twist at times. NB will know the issues here but he has to give the lad a fair crack especially if Basso is not fit. Maybe Basso will have to play one and rest one if the injury does not go away. Its a quandry for sure at the moment. We shall all just have to wait and see what happens over the next 2 months. We shall only know who is going to do what in the league come the end of Jan. Interesting times ahead both on and off the pitch.
think 2 strikers if we are to lose waghorn and simpson. is there anyway we can come to an agreement with Liverpool (ex Barmby club) about cancelling PG's loan - as it's not doing either the club or the player any favours
I don't really understand the loan fee idea for younger players. Sure, Joe Cole on loan to Lille might require a fee, but if you're a club looking to get your younger players some first-team experience, it's a bit cheeky to charge for it. The loaning club are doing you a huge favour by giving the player game time, surely that's payment enough?
