Good morning all, A post in the well respected Daily Echo states that Jammal has agreed to join the Saints and that Saints are also heavily involved in discussions with QPR as for some reason they are still keen to sign the pain in the arse we know is called Puncheon...... Would we go for both? Its a bit two fingered for Aaron Martin? Thoughts.?
Firstly, it's the Echo, so they are just guessing at best and don't have any insider info. They are just following up on previous widely reported stories. I'm a bit doubtful about signings that are make-weights in other deals. Discounting the Puncheon situation, would saints have gone for Gorkss if he was available anyway? What about Gorkss himself, will he be motivated to come to Saints and fit in when he probably thought he had a shot of playing in the Premier League a few weeks ago? Saints do not want to swap one miserable sod for another.
I don't think we need both to be honest, I'd rather go for Gorkiss because then we would get tid of Puncheon! Not sure who out of Jammal and Gorkiss is the better player, but Gorkiss has more experience in the division.
Got a feeling we will go for Jemmal. Seems the delay could be due to paperwork permits etc who knows but would make sense with what Adkins says regarding waiting for paperwork etc a few weeks ago when Jemmal rumour started. Think if we were going for the Punch swap Gorss deal that could of easily been done & dusted last week. Head says Saints will go for Jemmal. Who is better ? Gorss proven in UK Jammel sounds good ? Can't see either wanting to come to us if we sign both. Both would expect No 5 shirt.
Whoever comes in I'll be happy with. Obviously Gorkss is experienced at this level and the QPR fans rate him, but Jemal has played in the Europa League with Young Boys and has been linked with some big European sides before. At the end of the day, it's all about whoever is the better fit to play alongside Fonte. If I had to choose between them, I'd probably take a risk and go for Jemal as he is only 24 so still has room to improve and I think we have enough experience in the squad anyway.
I don't think we'll go for 2 CBs - either of these players would upgrade our existing CB pairing - so I'd be happy if we got one. Jamel seems more likely at this point
I think the offer of Gorkiss has thrown Saints a little bit. The club probably didn't expect a player like Gorkiss to be available in that deal and may have added to stalling the deals.
I would be surprised if both came in. Fonte is easily the first name on the team sheet right now and I don't think he will be replaced. Adkins signed Jack Stephens at the end of last season and 2 CB's would bump him down to 7th choice. Anyway just chillax, the transfer window is open for another month. It's not essential to do a deal before Saturday.
Jack Stephens is being brought through primarily as a right back, its where he played for the U21's and the Academy end of last season
Jemal isn't in the BSc Young-Boys team photo for the new season and also, apparently (good old rumour says); French Ligue 1 club, Stade Brestois 29 have joined the race to sign him.
Ok fair enough I didn't know that. It's still a lot of defenders, maybe if Martin went on loan it would just about be workable, I really don't think we need to sign two defenders though.
http://www.london24.com/sport/champ...t_qpr_can_complete_deal_for_puncheon_1_981706 According to this QPR have had a bid accepted....
"He’s a player we’ve been looking at, so now we need to see what happens in the next 10 days or so.” Hopefully sooner!
I never needed to reveal on 606 and same here. Martin is penciled in to go to Bournemouth on loan if we can keep all our CB
I take full credit for the story about Jemal not signing because his work permit hasn't come through...I seem to remember making that up about a week ago.
