Jamie White has ripped up his contract with Rovers to join Conf South Sutton Utd. DC has also indicated he may not be the only mover before our match at Chester. An offer has been tabled for Easter and, as yet, an unnamed Striker.
Rovers have announced that striker Jamie White is leaving the club today. His contract has been cancelled with immediate effect to allow him to sign for Vanarama Conference South side Sutton United. The former Salisbury City striker arrived at the Memorial Stadium in the summer, but has found first team opportunities limited and has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the club, seven of which have been from the bench. Speaking about White’s departure, manager Darrell Clarke said; “Jamie has been frustrated by a lack of regular football and, to his credit, he has agreed to the cancellation of his contract at no cost to Bristol Rovers Football Club. “He has trained well and worked hard since joining us but his move hasn’t worked out as well as he, and the club, had hoped. “We need to freshen things up at the top end of the pitch and we are aware that our goals for column needs to improve. “I have nothing but praise for Jamie’s attitude since he joined the club; he’s a good professional and I wish him every success at Sutton.”
Shame it didn't work out for him but none of are strikers have done the business this season so wont be surprised another leaves. Good luck to Jamie and Sutton.
fair shout to him to be honest. most players would just sit on the bench and take his weekly wage. but he wants to play football and is happy to drop a league in doing so. not may players would do this. also he has done so without any cost to rovers either, so fair shout to him. he obviously knows the striker that we eventually turn up will be ahead of him in the pecking order so i dont blame him for a second. DC is freeing up space in his wage budget too as some others may leave. i can see 2 strikers joining us within the next 7 - 10 days. mcnamara on twitter has said the following... "Wouldn't be surprised to see one or two moved out on loan later this week. Offer on table for Easter and are also trying to sign one other" we have a striker on trial tomorrow. see what happens now then.
Fair shout Mr White, however DC,s judgement in bringing the lad to the Mem originally causes a little concern over how well he really knows what we are up against in this League. Scouting network appears to be non existent and so we continue to end up with players who a mate of a mate thinks because he was talking to his cousin times 5 removed might be able to kick a ball and at times find the back of the net (if only !). That said hope JW makes his mark with Sutton.
Surprised Kuffour has gone to a Conf south side. Could easily do a job for us still and was one I was sorry to see go. Sometimes tried too much trickery and caught himself out but a decent player who could score goals.
Charlie Cough has scored more goals than Jo Kuffour this season... Fair play to Jamie White and good luck to him. I'm looking forward to seeing which strikers DC signs now. DC isn't messing about, which is good to see... someone who's decisive and can do...
Yep, it didn't work out for Jamie but best of luck to him with Sutton. I too am intrigued to see who we get in - and get someone in we must and pronto. We've got Brunt, Taylor and Harrison at the mo - none of which are pulling up any trees. Still not convinced by Easter, but let's see who else Darrell has up his sleeve.
Easter seems to average about 1 goal per three or four games, which isn't bad. An experienced head will probably help the others. I'm interested to see who the second striker is...
i would expect that average to get much better playing in lower leagues with us than his current average
Not too keen on this Easter scenario....it seems to be dragging on..... a touch of the O'Toole's. Sod all this it's close to home stuff. Come here 'cos you want to! So DC knew him years ago. So we get a player who DC knows and is able to get home to Wales quickly after matches!
It's only a few years since he was playing for Wales and Chrystal Palace. Ollie has obviously rated him highly. I'm sure he would be a decent signing. O'Toole is the nearly nearly man. Never actually done anything... never will...
I will be surprised if Easter comes. Unfortunately this seems to be used as leverage to get Ollie to give him games and from Ollies comments looks to be working. Scored 2 in 2 reserve games and Ollie has said he might have to bring him back in and give him a chance.
