âI said all last season and say it again now, Jamie has been unfairly critisized by alot of fans. At the end of the day he cost a lot of money for a conference player so expectancy was going to be at a high. His work rate was never in doubt whatsoever but what some fans failed to see was that as a striker, you need confidence. To gain confidence, you need a team to be playing well and for the second half of last season, we did not play well consistantly. Jamie may not be a 'Suarez' where he can pluck goals out of his own doing, but if our midfield and his strike partner play to his strengths (like you should with any player) he will get goals. One of the problems with certain fans is that they are too quick to critise before looking at the overall situation. The guy needs a break, a boost and its up to us fans to back anyone that wears the blue shirts (or the grey ones). Strikers need feeding. The problem is, if the midfield aren't in the game, it makes our strikers look bad and they are laid to blame if we don't score. I say good luck to Jamie and the rest of the boys and no doubt they'll be giving this season a good go following the FFP rubbish. LTID. I agree with what the writer has said 100% but not just about Vardy, the team, OUR TEAM, OUR CLUB ! So lets get behind the boys, like we did when Micky Adams was manager in tricky financial circumstances that ended in promotion ! COYB.
I think Vardy's first touch costs him so many chances He needs to have alot more belief in himself because at times last season he was scared to shot. A bit like the Matty Fryatt of old I think Vardy is more then capable of playing a role but I cant see him being first choice
Bloody hell Mick - thing of us old farts on here and increase the font size. Took me half hour to read that - thats over 2% of me day. I do agree that if we are patient with him (as we have been with so many others) he could do really well for us. However, the man with the long black coat and scythe will be peering over NPs shoulders, so he needs to hit the ground running and carry on where he left off last Saturday.
I was thinking the same thing. I´m a Vardy fan & I´m pleased as punch every time he scores for us. Conference to the championship is a big step & he needs time. I hope he gets a good amount of chances & mins on the pitch this season & he hit double figures, that´ll do him alot of good.
Just posted similar thoughts on another post. Think if he gets a run and a few early goals it could kick start a great season. Have stopped thinking the same thing could happen to Waghorn unfortunately.
Had a similar start last season, lets hope he can continue it, lets face it though, if he fails to score against Leeds, some will be calling for him to be dropped.
Reminds me of a kid on my cousin's school football team who has ADHD - full of energy and really enthusiastic but when he has to think then he panics. He needs a good run in the side to settle down and when he does he has the potential to be a very decent player - of course he won't because Leicester fans are fickle and will destroy him everytime he makes any kind of error.
Lots of sense above - I posted pre-season that it was too early to write him off (look at Kermorgant) - when we first signed him I was hoping we'd bring Bruno back cos I think Vardy would be most effective playing off an unselfish (but technically good) strike partner who could put him in on goal - still early days but he definitely has an eye for a chance and his finish against Boro was composed ...
I think playing with Nugent might be good for him though- Nugent runs about doing the ugly stuff and Vardy can worry about scoring goals. It's been proven that goalscorers at any level can often make the step up (Grant Holt, Ricky Lambert etc.) and Vardy's a goalscorer, who with the right management can prove himself at this level.
