CP confirms that he had been watching Fleetwood striker Jamie Vardy, with a view to a move. However, he was put off by the price tag which is believed to have been an incredible £1million! I hope he is still looking for a ''goalscoring'' striker to compete with BWP. Clarke is more in the mould of Hayes and Kermo.
According to the Yorkshire Post,Danny Haynes is joining from Barnsley next week. What do people think if true.
I always liked Haynes - and we were linked to him last season. Hope it's not lazy journalism on their behalf and just re-hashing an old story. His main attribute is pace - not really an out and out goalscorer as such. Think most managers usually revert him out wide in the end. Good player - not sure where he currently fits in.
Didn't he play for Charlton as a junior? Are we hoping for another Danny Green? Another who has only realised his talent in flashes. And his career goalscoring record is far from impressive, so in no way cover for BWP. Inferior goalscorer to Clarke. More of a Luke Varney type (striker/winger hybrid). Only worth signing if Wagstaff leaves and only then as a gamble on a free.
He did indeed start out with us. Read an article last week in which he said how gutted he was when he was released and wanted to go on and prove his worth. Not extremely excited about him, but I've always been amazed by his pace. As for Vardy, oddly, bit of an odd comment about him 'destined for Premier League/top Championship', considering he hasn't played above Conference Level as far as I'm aware. Also, if that is the case, then surely the £1million price tag would be a bit of a bargain?
I think the Premiership comments stems from the fact there is a high presence of scouts from the Premier League checking out lower league/non league football due to players like Beckford, Morrison and Austin making the step up and also being sold for handsome sums. Just another way to affect League One/Two.
He is a good player as he has displaced Magno Viera at the moment, but he is not worth that amount, would have thought around 250k is more like it.
He's certainly going to be in the shop window today - not sure that Fleetwood will want to part with him just yet though, while there's still so much left to play for in the BSB. As I think I've said before on here, of the clutch of fine players that Fleetwood have got there at the moment, my choice would be Andy Mangan.
