Please educate me. What do Man City and England see in him? Does he deserve his place in either team?

No, he stays on every minute too. He missed a sitter and almost cost England the game with an awful back pass.

sometimes managers just have certain players who seem immune for criticism or being dropped. Id have put on Walcott for him.

Might as well play swp as both have performed to the same standard last season

He puts in a shift and helps cover up Johnson's inability to defend as a right-back should. He has a decent cross on him and played reasonably well despite playing little recently. A better all-round player than Walcott imo.

This - I rate him highly but was disappointed with his overall performance yesterday

Agree with this. Mackie, with 20% more ability

His shot on goal was terrible. Anyone who's played the game should know that if your going away from goal you slice the ball. You have to aim for wide of the far post. Basic stuff really.

Both him and Stuart Downing are not good enough especially when Adam Johnson was left behind.

It's all well and good being able to beat a man but if you have his work rate, or lack of it, then there's little justification in him playing in a Hodgson team. Mancini has had enough and he's well behind Nasri now.

I agree with the posts saying that he hasn't had enough match time.

Good player and very versatile. I think if he and Adam Johnson had featured for City consistently then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I have to admit that I think Adam Johnson is a very good player. I would love to see us get him, even on a year long loan. I was surprised to see that he was not included in Englands squad for the Euros. He reminds me of a young joe cole but without the attitude. Then again, we would really start to turn into the Man City rejects team.

I cannot stand him. He has a jaw like a block of cheddar and stands for all that is wrong about football. Yes he works hard yes he is fit yes he has stamina but no he lacks ability. It was best summed up by somebody commenting on a bbc blog who said you may as well have a lawn mower playing on the right wing.

Who are the options? No end product Walcott or no end product Lennon, neither of whom will protect Johnson who can't defend for toffee.

I agree watford. But that is what is sad about English football. He is the best option! Personally I am more saddened by the functionality and lack of creativity in the centre of our midfield. Maybe I am just sad!

No your not sad mate. There is no magic in midfield and hasn't been since Gazza.

Isn't Walcott a better bet, he has some end product! Isn't there a right back who can defend out there? Bring back George Cohen!

Gazza is my all time favourite player for England. Unbelievable ability. Could do anything. I remember watching football Italian with James Richardson hungover on a Sunday afternoon and looking forward to games involving lazio. He more than held his own in Italian football. Not many Brits could say that.
