The BBC Website states that Rangers have released James Beattie. Plenty of experience there! I wonder what wages he wants?

I'm with Cairney for England on this one, it's worth a punt in my opinion.

The Beattie of 2-3 years ago would walk into this side and improve us immensley, but we need to ask ourselves why he has been released by Rangers, the guy is now 33 and it would be a very bad decision to sign someone based on reputation - take Yakubu for example, 2-3 years ago a goal machine, last year in the Championship was average at best. If someone cannot make it in the SPL then that suggests to me that they will struggle in the NPC, i'd be firmly behind taking him on trial, but giving him a contract based on reputation would be a bad bad decision I think

Have to agree on that, but its one of them if he is willing to come on trial for couple weeks stick him in the reserves see what his fitness is like and what standard he is back at. But not sure this is the right deal, don't think he will really add anything to us.

Ok let me get this right, your saying that at 33 James BEATTIE is too old, hmmm, DELEBOLA anyone ???? BEATTIE knows where the net is and has always been a great link up man, definitely worth a look at, invite hime down for training and see how much he can offer, then bang a deal out if worth it, nothing to lose, hell they gave ADEBOLA a years contract and BEATTIE is definitely better then him.

    No.
He nearly came to City before but pulled out at last minute because his girlfriend refused to come to Hull.
Has he got a new girlfriend?

    We don't need SPL rejects.

i could go along with that. it looks like opinion is evenly split so far on this. but yes a short term deal maybe to the end of the year and see how he goes. but for me the burning question is why has an SPL team let him go for nowt ?
something fishy here and why did not Blackpool snap him back up as they took him back in January ? questions questions that need some answers.

I live near Blackpool. He was generally considered overweight, slow and disinterested while he was there last season and most of their fans that I know couldn't wait to get shot of him. Not for me, thanks.

    Very good ;)

I wouldn't take Beattie, he isn't what we need and his £30K a week wages at Rangers would probably put us off anyway <ok>

Other than a few months with Stoke just after they signed him he has not done much for a number of years. If he lacks desire which appears to be what is being said about his time at Blackpool then we don´t want him. I would rather have some young player with plenty to prove than an old has been who is only interested in the money.

Apparently gone on loan to sheff united. Bit of a surprise as he's always been highly rated, but not heard of him doing much for a long time.
