Barnsley have signed midfielder Jak McCourt from Premier League side Leicester for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old's initial deal runs until the end of the season but the Reds have the option to extend it until the summer of 2017.

McCourt told Barnsley PlayerHD: "I'm delighted to join Barnsley. It's a massive club and I can't wait to get started. I want to help the club get to where it wants to be.

"I like tough tackling and to get on the ball and play football, so hopefully I can get started soon."

Barnsley have extended Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher's loan spell until the end of the season.

Fletcher, 20, has made four appearances for Barnsley since arriving on January 7, scoring one goal.

"I'm really pleased and very grateful to Manchester United for allowing us to keep Ashley to the end of the season," head coach Lee Johnson told the club's official website.

"He has been a real asset to the group since joining and has improved with each game.

"He'll only get better and stronger as we go along, so we're all extremely excited to have him on board as we head towards the business end of the season."

Fletcher, yet to make a senior appearance for United, scored five minutes into his Barnsley debut after stepping off the bench in the first leg of the the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area final against Fleetwood.

Nice one Barnsley, pity my team isn't strengthening.

Well my other team QPR are putting together a good league one side by poaching the better players of that division. Be handy for next year for a promotion push back to the championship...

I hate the Jan transfer window. I wish for just a shorter summer one.

Maybe just an emergency loan window in Feb.

    That's wot I reckon!
