I had already booked flight tickets for the game before Stan Bowles Day (the day before the announcement), but booked again to come over two Saturdays on the spin (Mrs, not happy). Now, after booking for the Preston game, the club announce this:mad::mad::mad:.

I think you're right about the influence and roles of Jago and Venables. Who was his no.2 whilst at QPR? I can't seem to recall.

Sexton was a victim of player power at Chelsea. Osgood and his mates thought they knew best and got the fans onside. The Chelsea board bought it and Sexton was out. I went to the Bridge the next season when we were wearing our red/white halves kit and outplayed them winning 3-0. It was great; as soon as the third goal went in all you could hear was a chant of 'Sexton, Sexton' as their fans streamed out.

Jago really brought Rangers into the modern era. He rebuilt after Rodney and introduced things like the open day at Ruislip pre-season (he had coached in the US wheee sport was always more customer focused), but Sexton was the real deal and that team was playing football that was not only great to watch but could also close up shop when it had to.

Apparently Sexton was 'too quiet' for Man U; despite him finishing runners up in his first season ( I think). They preferred Big Ron instead who managed to win the FA cup after managing to overcome mighty Brighton at the second attempt.

Anyway both Jago and Sexton Rangers icons in my eyes and always will be.

Greatest team I've seen at rangers, they had everything apart from the tittle they deserved, that Norwich defeat & it had to be them & I've hated them every since, 66/67 was good as well.
 
Been racking my brain to think of things which are better about the game (not just QPR) now than they were back in 75-76. Can only come up with 2:

- the stadiums are by and large, much better (not ours of course)
- there is much less football related violence

Absolutely everything else is, in my opinion, worse at the top level at least. We are continually being told that players are fitter and technically better. Even if that's true it doesn't make the game better or more entertaining. The price of going to games has multiplied many more times than the rate of inflation. There is way too much football on TV (sorry Swords), huge over exposure, armies of hangers on. And, above all, cash is king, the level of competitiveness at the top is directly related to wallet girth.

I would be grateful for any evidence to the contrary.

I always believe we lost the title when we drew 0-0 at Sheffield United, who were rock bottom that season, it was the only point dropped in a run of 12 wins in 13 games before the Norwich match. I was at Bramall Lane and we did everything but score hitting the woodwork five times, small margins...
